In August I swapped out my SYNC 2 to a SYNC 3 upgrade kit, and it worked great everything worked and system ran smooth. Recently over the pass month Ive had battery drain issue (3.2amp draw) after pulling fuses I ended up finding that 4 fuses related to SYNC dropped the drain down to 0.004. has anyone had issues with their SYNC 3 APIM or is there some type of programming that needs to be done to prevent this? Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

The common sources of drain that I know of are the alternator itself, the APIM and screen, the rear pump fuel relay and shorted non-working LED lamps anywhere. APIM will short or malfunction if overheated and you may find a code thrown in Forscan under APIM diagnostics.

I checked the alternator and that was fine. Until i pulled fuses: #9(SYNC), #29(radio GPS) that it dropped the amp draw down to 1amp, then fuses: #10(run accessory relay), and #11(intelligent access module) that it brought it back down to .004

Read my thread Thread 'Parasitic Battery Drain '14 - Have a question.' https://shoforum.com/threads/parasitic-battery-drain-14-have-a-question.145162/

Replace the screen where did you buy it?
looks like its a similar issue. I bought it from an ebay seller who offers a 1 year guarantee and actually the kit I bought from them look just like the one you shared a link to. I only got the module in August and the seller has very good reviews so Im hoping the process will be pain free.

Many models of the ebay and Amazon peeps are sync3 from 2016 many models had issues with overheating and shorting out. I had to replace the APIM not the screen. However it walks like a duck .... get them to swap it.. have them swap the whole unit Inc screen These Chinese companies bought the batch of defectives, and resell them try if u can.

The seller got back in touch with me and will be replacing the entire unit. In regards to this PDF you uploaded, is this a fix that I may be able to perform?

Replace it and get to know Cyanlabs from my signature. The place off amazon I bought mine replaced it as well which I talked about in the thread. I keep my 3.4 updated myself now.

I believe the fix in that TSB is this part of the Cyanlabs updater.

For the record there are those here that would say we caused our problems going the easy to buy route. Here is the proper way to do it - too late for us.

What exactly makes it proper? is it because they change something in the firmware? There's that guy Naviupgrades who on his website allows you to send in your APIM and he can jailbreak it.
Also thanks for all the help an insight on this.

There is 4DTech and Infotainment.com both very reputable sources of OEM upgrades.

FORScan, Cyan Labs, HP Tuners and SCT software are exclusively why I bought a Windows surface laptop. Probably also why I can’t seem to buy something other than Ford.

Here is your route. Replace the damaged APIM/Screen that's a hardware issue like mine was.

The Cyanlabs software is the way to go to keep your new investment up to date. Their software to update is just awesome, a bit overwhelming at first but worthwhile.

Same here - even use the laptop in the car - use a RAM laptop holder with a quick release.

Just a few of my dedicated tools:

That RAM mount is a great idea! Is it obtrusive or obvious when stowed away? I am seriously considering buying one.
I love mine, I will take a pic when I can. I bought the quick connect as well, so all I do is pull a pin, and it pops out. It's pretty heavy unfortunately, but it is very stable, and great for data logging. The one on Fortheworkshop.com is much lighter than this one. It's very rugged and highly recommend it, will say this peeps definitely think I am a cop. For me I take it out when I don't need it, however you can fold it down pretty easy.

It is "proper" because it is all OEM components. Personally, I went the junkyard route. I used NaviUpgrades to get my part list and a couple items that aren't OEM (like jumper harnesses). I chose a 2019 SHO Non-PP with the same options as my car and it was plug and play.

As far as JailBreaking your APIM, check out FMods. It will do everything they do for free. It also has different mods that you can do after you JailBreak.

ForScan, CyanLabs, and FMods are by far my favorite software for this car when it comes to the entertainment system.
