A friend of a friend had a Civic hatchback with some pretty serious bass system installed. I think it was 2 10's or 12's. He developed a leaking back window (and eventualy needed to replace the gasket around the window) Mechanic said it was the vibrations which rattled it loose. Should I be scared of this when installing speakers into my SHO? I have 2 audiobahn 10's with 1 cuft boxes aimed straight up through the 6x9 openings, and a Jensen 600w amp. (the amp is crappy, i know, but it does its job)
1 more thing before i go
Im planing to make a custom vent for the boxes which would concentrate the 10" speakers into the 6x8 openings to aim the sound into the passanger cabin without it being lost in the trunk. Anyone have any experience with this?

I knew this would happen
i try to draw a picture, and it gets messed up
if you wanna see it, just copy it and paste and display it in an equal- spaced font, like the one in the 'post new reply' window
Sorry

No that will not help infact you wil loose base. Sealed boxes usually work good for trunks. You will need your trunk to be sealed as much as possible to get the most from it. Basically it is the box that is amplifing the sound from the subs. Take out a sub and listen to it and then put it in the box you will notice a difference. Have the speaker facing the back you will really be able to hear it and feal it. Most do it this way because it works the best. In my car I can feel the bass to the drivers seat so don't face it up. Subs are meant to produce bass, not be a speaker.
On my system I have already lost 3 rear view mirrors. The last one put a nice crack in the windsheild and took some glass with it. I have not had any other problems.

the direction of your sub really just determines the timing of your soundwaves. subs are sorta uni directional so the most important part is timng the reflections from the rest of the car.
also by venting yoursub box you will have increased the volume of your box there by detuning your current box. to do this you would have to tune your subs and box to the increase of the vents
if you look at the factory system on the 2nd generation it fires the subs upward like you. this works fine for it but it reflects the sound off the window which may not work well for a much higher powered system(it would lose energy through the window unreflected) the vents could be turned to face the front of the car but couldn't look good and wouldn't carry the energy well. but i say if you want to do it do the research and try it thats the only way to know for sure
here are some good sites

LOL, I had a guy come in when i worked at the hardware store looking for something to stop his spoiler from rattling. I went out to his car and opened his trunk. I started laughing and he asked what....I told him to get rid of the HUGE ASS SPEAKERS, or replace the nuts that hold on the spoiler constantly.

If you want the sound to come through just take the top half of the back seat off and the insulation then put the speakers in a band-pass box and face them towards the rear lincense plate and this will double the bass. I had two 12's and that sounded good and vibrated the front seats when you would be sitting in them and when I stripped my interior for racing, OMG them speakers were'nt only vibrating the seats. They had my ears cuting out voice and hearing and sound like my ear drum was rattling out of my ear so I turned it down and never turned it back up like that since I wanna hear when I get older. thumbs_u

I think now is a good time to add that listening to stereos at high volume can reduce your chances of hearing emergency equipment, or others trying to get your attention.

Now is also a good time to add that bandpass boxes are for losers who want all boom and no midrange.

Why not just put a drum where the passenger seat is? That way you can just thump that thing and turn your hazards on for that 'hi-hat' sound. boink

30footSHO,

Who said there's no mid-range bs Have you heard of crossovers thumbs_u Looks like you need some schooling to know you can have mad bass and still have good mids and highs that ring your ears :D BTW your mids and highs make the bass sound much clearer and louder boink

personal preference.

I think bandpass boxes are too boomy and loose sounding. Good for rap, perhaps, but not anything else. I say either sealed or ported is the way to go, and personally I like 'em sealed.

And I know what a crossover is. It's for cutting certain frequencies out of the speakers' output. Last I recall, they help eliminate distortion, especially for component speakers, where they come standard.

Listen, I'm sure your bandpass was loud as all ****. But I'll stick with the sealed enclosure for tighter, cleaner response. thumbs_u

I have the same problem with my 2 12" JL's, Erik knows how they make my spoiler shake and everything else :) , I think some rubber lining between the two should quiet it down better.

RI-SHO, if you have a killer system like me all the rattling can't be fixed. I have things rattling from bumper to bumper and everything inbetween. :D

30footSHO, a bandpass has great sound and response if you make it your self and fill in all the wood cracks with wood glue, you have your self a damn good box that doesn't rattle or vibrate due to not properly sealed cracks. :D
BTW my system sounds great with rap, hard rock, country, jazz, ect. You name it, it plays it bad a** :D

I'm glad you have pride in your system and your bandpass. What kind of speakers are in there, anyway? Best Buy?

It's just that most serious systems I have seen don't bother with bandpass boxes. Ports, yes, but no bandpass.

Rattles suck, too. I get them from the spoiler, the rear package shelf, the rearview mirror, etc. It's more due to the SHO being almost ten years old than anything else, really.

I don't really have much pride in my system, aside from it being self-installed and maintained. It sounds fine, but could always sound better. Point is, there's no real advantage to having more expensive, heavy electronics in a car that's more fun to drive than anything else.

The best sound in a SHO is the engine at WOT.

Well most of the rattles squeaks where mostly eliminated with a nice expensive dosage of Dynomat everywhere, just didnt wanna spring for another roll to go under the spoiler. So I am going to try the cheap way with some rubber spacers and liner.

Here's my "little" setup, simple, yet clean and loud for still have stock speakers:

Most of the credit for the system sounding so clean is due largley by the 14 band digital EQ from Alpine, makes those stock JBL's sound clean(with no bass to them either).

Yeah, that's heavy all right.
Yea didnt help my 1/4mile much, and I went with 18's as well, before you ask, I just wanted to know what I would run on all the time when driving around(not stripped at 1/4tank gas). Next time I go I'll have 2more mods, no stereo(minus amps), and no passenger seat to make up for leaving the amps in, hopefully 14's.

getting a little OT here, but have you noticed that Team Dynamics' website isn't really functioning properly?

I was on there the other day and couldn't get any Taurus wheels---there wasn't a Taurus selection in the drop-down menu.

How did you get yours?
