I used to get a thump when the ATX changed from 1st to second. That seems to have gone now and instead its started changing though gears too quickly. It will change 1st thru 4th in about 10 seconds. Any ideas?

does this happen when the car is cold, warmed up or both? thats one of the most important factors. if its only doing it while hot then its most likely your VSS is crapped out on you. are you wide open throttle when this happens or moderate acceleration? considering the 0-60 is around 7 seconds (am i right on that one?) for the SHO then maybe your gears are switching too slow. feed us some more info and maybe somebody here will have some good answers for you.

Im fairly sure its happening cold and warm.
Im only using moderate acceleration. It allows you to rev to the correct RPM before changing from first to second and then it changes quickly, every second or so before the engine has a chance to pick up again, until it hits fourth. The engine struggles in fourth with the low RPM's and i have to plant the accelerator to give it more power.

Until you can get it fixed, I would lockout OD and shift manually when it does this. You'll toast your torque converter if you continue to drive like you are now.

Im sure its only happening now when the engine gets hot and I have driven it for a while.
The transmission fluid is topped right up. I added some Gunk - Transmedic, transmission additive.
Anybody use these additives in the past, what was your experience?

if its only happening on a hot engine then it sounds like your VSS needs replacing. I dont know how inclined you are to doing that sort of thing yourself since its a long job. If thats all it is though then your lucky because it means you wont need a new trans. run your codes and see if it gives you a VSS code.

If its the VSS how urgent is that to be replaced and how much does it cost?

BTW Where did you pick up your "Lighted SHO dash emblem" you mention in your signature?

I ran the codes yesterday and got a 647 (M) Transmission 3rd gear failure.

I'll wipe them before I go out to day and post what i get when i get back.

well i think if you can deal with it its not an immediate replacement item. but i wouldnt let it go for too long or else i think it can mess up your tranny if its weak or has high miles to begin with. you should ask around at local shops, maybe someone will do it for you for cheap. as far as the 3rd gear failure goes that doesnt sound too good so maybe you should still bring it to a tranny shop but it *sounds* like its your VSS. now, about the lighted emblem, i made it, i took off the SHO plate and drilled holes behind it for some blue LEDs in the little housing where the temp sensor sits. then i ran some power to it from the headlight switch and backed the SHO plate with white paper and replaced it. voila! theres a huge writeup about it in the upgrade-interior section. if you want you can always message me and i can tell you more though.

Ok well this is unusual. I just filled up the fuel tank and the knock from 1st to 2nd has returned. Now I realise the knock was most aparent last time i filled up and it gradualy went away as the tank drained. I guess it has something to do with more weight at the rear of the car?!? oh_my

well i would be inclined to say not due to weight in the rear but maybe weight in general since the trans is in the front. so maybe since the extra gas weight is straining it. wait a minute though, i should have asked is this an audible thump or you just mean the way the tranny shifts?
