I have a problem with my 93 atx. It doesn't like to shift out of park. I have pulled the shifter apart to try and see if something was wrong but I can't find anything that looks out of the ordinary. If I start the car, then try to shift out of park (the car is on flat ground, no weight on parking pin) it won't budge. I can hear a click under the dash when I depress the thumb button but it won't go. If I shut the car off and don't turn the key all the way to lock, it shifts fine. For now I have to turn the key to just off of the lock position, shift into neutral, start the car and shift into drive. I thought it might be a vaccuum problem but I didn't see anything that looked out of place. Any thoughts?

Maybe its the BOO switch on the brake pedal. If its not working it won't let you shift out of park becasue its not seeing that you have your foot on the brake.

Check and see if you have brake lights first. If you don't, replace the blown fuse in the panel and try it again. If that fuse blows, unplug the Cruise Control module and try it again.

You can always get the car out of park by turning the key to the first click (between steering lock and run), then moving the shifter to Neutral and start the car.

If it turns out that the fues blows everytime you put a new one in, it's most likely the CC module is shorted. Pull the connector and look at the pins. More than likely, you'll find one that is melted.

Another issue is that sometimes, the Master Cylinder Pressure Switch gets popped and begins to leak. Amazingly enough, it forces brake fluid thru the wires and can end up as far down the harness as the DRL plug. Don't laugh, I've seen it many times.

I had the no brake lights problem and unable to shift from park when running, it was due to the previous owner haveing a trailer connector and backing their jet ski in the water. I removed the plug, looked for blown fuses cause I had no brake lights. Replaced the fuse and I got the lights back and could be shifted from park to drive after starting. Amazeing what that one fuse controls......

Well I went and checked it out last night. Sure enough, I didn't have brake lights. (Must be why that guy gave me the finger the other day!) I went through all the fuses and none of them were blown. Then I pulled the connector off of the BOO switch but everything checked out ok. After I plugged it back in, everything worked again. I wiggled the wires on the switch the first time this happened but it didn't make any difference. I must not have wiggled them enough unless maybe the switch is just going bad. Anyway, thanks for the help guys!
