Hello,

Recently, Me and my brother did a transmission swap, got another AXOD, installed a shift kit, new clutches, etc.

We finally got it in just 2 days ago and were able to test it on our lift tonight, on the lift, the transmission apparently worked fine on the lift, shifted all 3 gears (speedometer went up to 105 MPH & 3250 RPM @ 95 MPH or so), this was with the transmission in drive of course.

Once the car was put on the ground however, it had no power in drive, or 1st, however it moves in 2nd, reverse doesn’t work either, the transmission goes into gear and the car will budge in the direction its supposed to go, but the engine rev's up and it doesnt move.

My brother apparently thinks it’s the EPC's, hence why it works on the lift, but not on the ground. Everything sounded great until we lowered the car onto the ground.

He asked me to ask here to try and get a second opinion.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I think there may be something wrong with the forward clutch.Check what the line pressure readings are:
SPECS=
GEAR / EPC / PSI(AT IDLE)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
P/OD/D/1 / 10-20 / 48-77psi
---------------------------------------------------------------------
R / 10-20 / 61-99psi
line pressure port is the first plug furthest front on top of trans.

I have a car with a smiliar situation. My trans guy said it was probably the pump but that was just me discribing the situation to him. Keep us posted on what the problem is.

havent had any good luck but have had some progress with the transmission
I had built the unit, fist one I ever done and when I put all the tubes in I thought how poor this system is delivering fluid to the drums, there is one tube in particular that requiers a small teeny tiny seal that presses on the tube that seals in the case, very
poor for reliable fluid delivery, after I failed to make the tranny move the car, I pulled the pan and thought how can I make this better, I went to the hardware store and found a brass pipe for $1.90 cut it sanded it drilled it and beat it into the case then pressed the tube into the bushing nice and tight, bolted the pan on and that didnt do much like I thought but I did get drive for a few seconds wich I never had before, I have 2 93 transmissions and both had loose tubes with torn seals, I think my problem is a torn piston seal I will have to remove the trans and tear it down again arggg! but I will get it out faster this time, I know what to do now, I will make this axod-e rip the tires soon!

when you take the trans back apart stop before you take the support out .If a seal is leaking you can test it by blowing compressed air into holes on top of the support(low psi)if it starts leaking it will be easier to find listening.
I also check each clutch pack with air to make sure it doesnt leak before re-assembling.
the tubes are **** tubes andhave been ok with just a small amount of sealer the screen is what picks up the fliud for the pump.

You are correct in your second post. You made an oops when you re-built the transmission. When you pull the shifter into manual second, you make the car start out in second. I would say it drove on the lift, because something is most likely bound up. OR you cut a seal and have a cross leak. Did you air check the unit before you put it back in the car?

Also, OH SHO, if you need help let me know. I am in Cincinnati :thumb:

I sure didnt air check any of the drums, when I assembled the pistons they went in smooth, teaches me to never assume its working, but Ill bet the rear tube wont leak 1 psi of preesure ever again, I will post some pics of my progress, oh by the way what do you guys think of the factory cooler? I took the original fittings from the transmission and chucked them pos and purchased AN #6 pushlok one was a 90 degree and one is straight, and I disconected the lines going into the radiator, no need to heat the fluid, or add heat into the engine cooling system, it looks like the factory air to liquid cooler is large enough to handle the transmission heat on its own.

If you are spending the time and money to rebuild your transmission, replace the cooler. Last thing that you want is some contamination stuck in that cooler to release at the exact wrong time into your transmission. Get a plate style cooler from someone like B and M. Cost less than 70$. And worth its weight in gold.

I have a 28000 gvw b&m cooler but the factory cooler looks impressive to me, its the largest cooler I have seen on a ford period, I have seen smaller coolers on a F350 truck diesel, I did remove the cooler and flush it with brake cleaner and used shop air to blow it clean, I just never seen a bigger cooler on any other ford or any manufacture for that matter, maybe ill reconsider, I just pulled the trans out today, took around 4 hrs work nice and easy till the trans started to tilt off the trans jack then I was spewing curse words as amsoil atf spilled down my shirt and arm, but now its out apart and tommorow I will take the drums apart to see what happened, the brass bushing I installed in the case for the rear **** tube works great, no way in **** that will ever leak again.

Hey there Javier, post a pic or send me a pic of the bushing, also, if you give me the size of the brass tubing you used, that would be great!

Well when you buy the update steel piston for the foward drum, it helps to install the lip seal, might work better that way.
