Have a 95 AXT that have been having a starting issue. It seems to be at random. Try to explain this thing that is going on. Went to the store, did some shopping, came out and got into the car and turned the key to start. No start but the engine turned over. So to not run the battery down I let up off of the key. Now the weird thing, the engine wasn't turning over, the ignition switch was in the run position and all of a sudden the car started. I noticed the tach acted odd but settled down after a few seconds and it ran fine. Now my wife said that had happened to her a couple of times already. So now I am doing a search. I have pulled the codes and I get a 173 178 and a 212. I have replaced the 02's with new ones and still get the same codes. Cleaned the MAF and have even installed a new IAC as the idling was going up and down between 900 and 1500 rpms. Have checked for vacuum leaks but nothing so far. Had the car for over a year now and I haven't pulled the intake off yet, so there shouldn't be any leaks there. This has just been going on in the pass couple of months. Other than that the car ran like a top.

after changing the 02 sensors, you need to clear codes or they will remain.

after changing the iac, you need to perform the idle reset procedure to get it to 'learn' how to control the idle w/ the new iac.

Well going to give it another shot today. Pulled the cables off of the battery to clear codes. Now I know to clear the codes before doing the repairs and this makes the 4th time I have done this. The new IAC should have learned the reset after driving the car a month since it was installed. Or am I wrong? I will start over. Maybe give my vacuum lines a going over too. I will try the IAC reset again this time by the book. Would I be looking at the cam positioning sensor since I have had a random starting problem. The person that we had bought the car from kept all records of what was done to the car so I will go thru that today to see what was replaced. Thinking I might have to replace the crankshaft position sensor. It just we have had the car now for over a year and all I have done is replaced spark plugs and changed the oil, then when this problem started with the idling and etc then came the IAC and O2's as I was going on what the codes were giving me.
