Anyone that has done this have any suggestions on the easiest accessory lead to tap into and where?

Thanx in Advance!

Also I am trying to figure out a goos spot for the concealed display... Any ideas?

In case anyone is interested in hard wiring a radar detector it's really easy on this car. You dont even need to remove the a pillar the whole way.
Mount your radar detector next to the mirror.
Push the cable in the headliner to the a pillar.
Pull down the weather stripping.
Pull the a pillar to remove the first stage.
Run the wire down the a pillar and push it to the foot well near the bottom.
Run the positive to fuse 41. This turns on/off with the ignition.
Use one of the bolts in the foot well for the ground.

10 minutes tops. I put the positive right on the leg of the fuse, but you could use something like this too http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956PT-Mini-Circuit-Holder/dp/B001QRSBW0

I hardwired mine a year ago without any issues.

Yes! I used a pigtail lead from a company called Safe-N-Sound. Leads go into the plug in the mirror, so the unit shuts off automatically when power to the mirror shuts off. Leads long enough the allow the unit to sit under my windshield tint. It's out of the way, can't be seen from the road.

I have the ancient style rearview mirror.. no power at all.... Is there still perhaps a wire in the "map light" area to tap into perhaps?

This thing has wires all over the place. Plus with my height it's kinda tough to lay in there contorted and just randomly tag wires.

Randomly tag wires? Push the seat back, run the wire down the a pillar, and attach it to fuse 41. Shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes and it works perfect. Easier than trying to splice into wires and hoping they turn off with the ignition. Just sayin..

So, which of the mirror's connector wires did You tap into with the two .050 pins on the pigtail?

I like what you are sayin'... As soon as I get a chance I will explore this.

Thanks!

Looks like I have the red wire in the light blue wire on the side next to plug snap. Black wire to black. Just turn the ignition on accessory mode, poke red lead into mirror connector until your detector fires off. Turn ignight off, and if V1 shuts down, you know you've got the right wire.

If I use a piggyback to tap into a fuse slot, I don't think I'll be able to re-attach the fusebox cover. The manual warns against it for a shock hazard . . . should I be concerned?

I've purchased the Blendmount mirror tap for my V1 and have tried to wire it in to the mirror plug by tapping the black wire to the black wire and the red wire to all other wires and still no power! Anyone have any ideas on what the proper combination of wires is to get it to work?

Thanks!

There is definitely 12v switched power at the rear of the mirror. Did you have the ACCY power on? Clip a pin or small wire to a volt meter probe and ground the other probe, you should be able to back probe the connector. You might have to start the car, I do not remember if the 12v switched is on with ACCY or only after start up.

Update to wiring the V1: I was able to identify the correct wires I needed from the front of the rear view mirror plug, but however hard I tried I could not stick the Blendmount Mirror Tap prongs far enough into the back of the plug. There just wasn't enough room. I sanded the prongs down to about half their original size and they still wouldn't stick far enough down to make a connection. So I abandonded that and ran the long wire along the headliner and windshield, down the A pillar, and tapped in to the fuse box using a fuse tap. Fuse 41 as noted above and elsewhere in the forum worked for the detector, however with the fuse tap plugged into that spot the rear view camera no longer showed up in the rear view mirror. Take the fuse tap out and put just the fuse in and the camera showed up again. So I used the fuse tap on fuse 33, which is shown as not used but it does turn on and off with the ignition.
Hope this helps anyone else wiring in directly to the fuse panel.
