Well I am without a jack so I had to do it with the wheel and splash shield in place. Not fair, I know.

I had trouble getting the antenna mast out also. I removed the *** metal piece and this didnt help. I had to loosen the screw that is basically clamping the tube in place and remove one beside it that was locking the tube in place. After that the broken mast slid right out. Make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the tube when you remove it. Needs to go back in the same rotation. I also had to remove the black plastic cover to remove a large section of broken gear. Almost didnt see it as it was a bit deep. After 8 years the antenna works as designed. Very happy

Just a bump: just got a new power antenna mast from this site, $11.99 plus shipping, and it is identical to the old one, down to the hex-shaped tip.

If the cord isn't broken off inside (mine was bent), it's a piece of cake to replace.
  • Tap on the indents in the ring at the top with a screwdriver in the normal "unscrew" direction with a flat screwdriver and hammer to get it started (be sure you aren't going to hit paint if you miss or slip). Unscrew and remove.
  • Deep-socket 14mm to reach down to the nut, and if you have an unretracted mast in the way, you can grab the socket with vice grips to unscrew it.
  • Turn on the radio and simultaneously pull out the antenna while the motor is feeding it out.
  • If the old plastic toothed strip is the same length as the new one (not broken), feed it in with the teeth facing towards the front. It may catch inside, so wiggle it around until you feel it engage the motor gear and you can push it in feeling a bit of resistance,
  • Turn off the radio, and guide the antenna the rest of the way in as the motor pulls it in.
  • Reuse the nut from the old antenna, and reinstall the top ring.

PS, if you do need to remove the motor, there are two bolts. The little one is 5.5mm.
