I just put a system in my car and I used 4 gauge. I could not find a place to run that size wire through the fire wall on my MTX, so I went around it. I mounted my fuse link on a metal bracket right in front on the strut tower casing. Then ran the wire through a hole right there and into the opening for the strut above the fender splash guard. I wired it up good out of the way of the spring and then ran it through the fender to the inside of the passanger door. I then drilled a hole in the crimped section below the floor/door molding and passed the wire to the inside of the car. From there on out it was just a matter of removing the molding, pulling back the carpet and running the wire back to the trunk. Make sure you have plenty of wire. You should also run your blue on/off wire down that side as well. Run your signal wires down the other side of the car. The power wire is not effected at all when you open and shut the passanger door. Just make sure its real tight. I ran the power wire on my firebird under the car to the back hatch area and never had any problems out of it. So, you dont really have to go through the firewall. Good luck.

What he said...

that is incredibly dangerous and flat out stupid. I simple accident can turn into a major catastrophe.

I ran my 0g wire through the firewall just above the brake pedal. There is a rubber grommit that might be unused on the MTX but houses the vaccum brake release for the ATX. I drilled a hole in it and ran the wire up the driver's side of the car....

think for a second that you have run the wire under the car. and you get into an accident...the 4g (or 2g, or 0g) wire you have run gets cut, and there is a fuel leak...

fuel + spark = boom.

or, alternatively, you run it outside the firewall and between the unibody and outter fender. There is a minor accident, and the wire gets cut. typically, your fuse should pop and everything would be okay. But in the off chance something is faulty, your battery explodes.

Guess you may be right about the fuel leak, but not so sure I go for the exploding battery. Though anything is possible with a SHO. I really dont have much exposed 4 gauge wire with the way I ran it through the tower housing. There is about 4" you can see coming in from the fender area and going into a hole I drilled to pass it into the car. You only see that when you open the passanger door and look to where the other power wires for the window, door lock, ect. are located. If the passanger side of my car gets hit hard enough in that area to cut a 4 gauge I will most likely have one dead SHO anyway. The way I have it set-up, the power wire will probably get pulled from It's post conector in a side inpact accident. However, If you will explain how to pass a 4 gauge power wire through the firewall of a MTX I would change it right away.

Thanks for the feedback. It is really appreciated.

I put my systems 4gauge through that hole with the rubber grommet on the driver side. Worked perfectly even with the rectangular 4 gauge wire I use. That is much safer then wiring it outside the car.
