I've been lurking this forum for a few days now and finally made an account today. I've been really thinking about getting a 2016+ SHO w/PP. Right now I have a 2009 Corvette Z06 and a 2014 Focus ST, the plan would be to sell both and get the SHO. The Corvette is awesome but I never use it, maybe putting a couple hundred miles on it in a good year (mainly due to being a family of 3 doesn't really work well with a two seat car). The ST has been extremely reliable, easy to mod/work on and it is also fun to drive but it is way too small inside and I don't get to use it much at all in the winter (not very good in the snow/ice). It is also not very comfortable so I always end up using my truck for long drives. I want something sporty/fast with awd and a little more luxury. My main question is: Will I be disappointed with a SHO's performance? I wouldn't be modding right away but definitely would at some point, would a full exhaust, thermostat, map sensor and tune put it in the low to mid 12's in the 1/4? I have never driven one or even sat in one yet so I still have a long way to go before I get one but I always thoroughly research cars before getting them.
Other questions I currently have:
Which colors are metallic paints? I like the magnetic, ruby red and blue colors but I cant tell from pictures if they have any flake in them or not.
I've read all about changing the ptu, trans and rdu fluid regularly, has anyone made a walk through on these procedures with pictures. I've searched up and down and can't seem to find anything decent with pictures or anything decent on youtube.
Would the H&R springs available for these end up lowering the car too much for pothole ridden southeast WI?
I have an extra set of 18 inch ST wheels, has anyone tried those on a SHO to use as winter wheels? Will they work?
Sorry for the long post guys. TIA!

I had a 2016 Focus and I liked it but too small, traded it in for my 2015 SHO w/PP.
Recommend you definitely get the PP model.
The car is fast with 365 HP and about 425 with the Hurricane Bundle.
Interior and technology is amazing and I have the Black with metal flake.
Even though it is AWD and you may get the '18 rims on it, this is not a winter car in my opinion.
I use a Ranger during the winter.
The gas mileage is good and I use 93 octane exclusively.
Good luck with your search.

By the way,

I am looking for a used SHO, how Canni tell quickly that an SHO has the Performance Package “PP” in it?
I mean how can I tell quickly while looking through ads etc. and the dealer doesn’t have any idea????

Most dealers will not tell if it is PP in the ads, they want you to come to the dealership.
Then they try to downplay the PP as only a cosmetic upgrade.
I looked at four and only the one I bought was a PP.
If you are going to by the SHO for performance, get the PP.
Also, low mileage is at a premium on these cars. You want to make sure there is a maintenance record if anywhere over 25 or 30k miles.

All these positive reviews...still trying to resist the new versions...ugh
Why I HATE my SHO...

It's too frickin' comfortable. The Adaptive cruise control does all the work. The heated/cooled/massaging seats make my butt tingle. The infinitely adjustable seats, steering column, and pedals don't allow my legs to cramp, so I have to drive for HOURS before have to get out. So boring!

I don't blast the stereo, so the stock sound system is way OVERKILL. With XM radio, USB stick, phone over BT, or HD FM as an option, I never get to listen to my old AM radio stations anymore. Nothing compares to the Philco AM radio in my '70 Torino.

It's reliable, so I don't get to do any more than change the fluids, and keep it clean. So much for the good old days of adjusting rockers, replacing bent push rods, adjusting the carb, gapping the points and plugs, checking the timing, etc. No mystery leaks to track down. It's no FUN!

Yeah, it likes to suck the battery down with all the creature comforts that seem to run even when it sits in the garage for days, but with it on the battery nanny, that's become a non-issue.

I hope this is enough to steer you clear of the SHO, and back in the direction of a more reliable and exciting Yugo!

Selling a Chevy to get a Ford? Always recommended. Though a Z06 maybe I'd make an exception....
FoST: Not sure about what you mean about not good in snow/ice. Any car is transformed with a set of real winter tires into something that is at least tolerable, as long as the roads are plowed enough to keep you from pushing snow with the air dam! It's got ESC too. I don't do snow driving often but if I did I'd take FWD with a set of real winters over AWD and all-seasons. If it is too slippery to accelerate fast, it's too slippery to brake fast, the latter is what gets you in trouble. :eeeeeek:

And if your wife drives the SHO, better warn her about having >350 ft-lb under the right foot, maybe have her run it at an autocross or driving school. And don't show her how to turn off the traction nannies until after that is done.

I said no exhaust right up until I heard a neighbor's SHO that's muffler deleted. The sound is great but the turbo spool is what really got me. Some of us are still children at heart!
So he literally just took out the mufflers replaced with piping? That's it? Not a full exhaust? No downpipe?

Any issues with O2 sensors or anything? I was constantly clearing codes on my Mustang so these past 6 months of no CEL's has been nice. But I do sorta miss the rumble.

He just removed the rear mufflers. Everything you mention is up stream so you will get no codes. You will get obnoxious sound and drone.

The video sounded good but I'm sure it's not so good in the car or driving down the road. I'd be happy just to hear the turbo. Think I'd need a downpipe for that, which would, in turn require tuning and issues with codes.

Couldn't be happier with my 13PP car, extremely well kept secret in the performance sedan world. The Ruby Red Metallic looks great when it's clean, unfortunately if you drive it and live someplace where it rains or snows you'll spend more time washing your car than modding it. If I had to do it over, I'd get the same car in a silver or more forgiving color. Possibly ceramic coating it would help but I haven't been down that road yet.

LOVE those grilles! Did you install yourself? How's the look up close though? Does it look OEM as far as fitment?

Yup, did the install on the grills, lights, and spoiler after getting some pointers from Jason. The install looks really ****** compared to how the OEM part is made, but once it's installed it fit the opening nicely and was way more solid than I expected from the install. The only complaint I would have would be the lack of decent instructions and as a daily driver, the black powder coat chips and needs occasional touch up to hide the chips. Click on the pic and it blows the picture up in another window so you can get a better look.

My entire life I had never had the same car more than a year and a half until I bought my SHO. Drove it for 3 years and bought a newer one. I don't think you would be disappointed in the performance. Tune it immediately tho, whole different car and no sense in wasting time. You would not regret that for sure. I'm a year into my second SHO and all I would say is if you ever drive more than 3 hours straight, get one with massaging seats. That and a heated steering wheel are two things that I would now call necessities in all future car purchases. The metallic black and the white both look amazing when clean.

Nice to hear I'm not the only one that went from one SHO to a newer SHO, 2011 base model to 2016 loaded.

Yep, feel the same about my 2011. I went through two BMW 7's and decided I wouldn't trade the SHO for a new 7. Never mind the difference in insurance, it's been a solid performer, I can put regular gas if I need to (and not void the warranty like in the BMWs), and the creature comforts are comparable if not better. There are a few winter days I miss the heated steering wheel, but those are few and far between. Wish Ford would reconsider stopping production. Besides, what are they going to offer as a police cruiser now?
