Tuxedo black looks amazing but with my OCD approach to car detailing I could never own a black car. Looks like I'll have a hard time deciding on color though, they all look great!

I am the worst. I have OCD really bad when it comes to my SHO. I have over 50 hours of paint correction on mine. I ceramic coated mine as well and it took a beating the past 6 months from two sandstorms driving to Cali. So it will have all the trim removed, rubber replaced, trim paint matched, another full correct, and another ceramic coat. But when it looks perfect.....

Paint Correction

@SM105K that looks amazing, I'm pretty sure my wife would file for divorce if I spent that amount of time/money/energy on detailing though lol. Also I have the boomba bov on my ST and I love it. A lot of people say it's too loud but I think it's just right. My ST is straight piped right now as well so maybe I'm just suffering some hearing loss! The only bad thing is bov's on these cars sometimes vent when you give it a little gas and let off (like when you have cruise on and you're going up a hill). You can run a vacuum line from a symposer delete kit to fix it but it hasn't bothered me enough to do that yet

I want something sporty/fast with awd and a little more luxury. My main question is: Will I be disappointed with a SHO's performance? I wouldn't be modding right away but definitely would at some point, would a full exhaust, thermostat, map sensor and tune put it in the low to mid 12's in the 1/4? I have never driven one or even sat in one yet so I still have a long way to go before I get one but I always thoroughly research cars before getting them.
Go test drive one and see what you think.

It is not what the other 2 vehicles are. It's a compromise. Get in one kick it around. Also for family people, the back seat is alot less roomy than you would imagine by looking at it from the outside. This has been the case from the first taurus release in the '80s.

A lot of your questions have been answered, but I'll chime in late with my two cents regardless. I bought my SHO almost a year ago when I finally got sick of tossing my money at a GTI that found a new part to break every other week. I have always come from small sporty cars, and initially had hesitations on buying a 4200 pound land yacht, right up until the first test drive. I took one pull on a back road, expected to hit 55 or so, and looking down at the speedo to realize I was doing just over 90. My jaw dropped that this huge car could get up and move like that. I went back a few days later with a title in hand and I'm now the owner of a 2011 SHO.

In a year of ownership, nothing has broken. OEM brake rotors warped, and she now has an EBC kit. Threw a wheel weight on the stock wheels while doing snow donuts, theres a set of Rotiforms in the mail. Many of my bushings are shot, but it's a 90k mile car. We expect that. More importantly, it's a 90k mile car that's held up so well that everyone who rides in it is shocked when I tell them it's not brand new. The reason say all of this is that I was horrified at my gas mileage at first. I pull 17-18 commuting 8 miles to work each morning with no highway, but on the bright side I've managed to pull over 30 highway on a 4 hour road trip before. Both figures on premium. I did the math, and even spending almost $50 a week on gas for driving 270ish miles, I'm spending less money per year on my car because of the reduced maintenance costs. Obviously not a direct correlation because you didnt own a POS Volkswagen before hand, but point still remains.

Final point, coming from a sporty hot hatch, I do miss the handling. In my first week of ownership, I almost wrecked twice while trying to take corners at GTI speeds. Once again, 4200 pound land yacht that, in my instance, is on Goodyear all seasons. It isn't a bad handling car though, it's just big and fat and not a sports car by any stretch. The acceleration is stupid for a car of that size, even stock, and I still smile while driving it albeit for different reasons. I smiled in my hot hatch when I nailed the apex of a corner doing 2.5 times the speed limit. I smile in my SHO every time I do a pull from a stop light, or when some hot shot teenager thinks they can get away from my grandpa car. Also, my commute is so much more comfortable. The Sony sound system is killer, automatic climate control is an awesome feature I was never used to, air conditioned seats are a life saver, and massaging seats never hurt anyone either.

Take a test drive! Our cars aren't for everyone, but we all love them for a reason. Maybe you will too!

Definitely will have to get in one soon, these cars sure sound fun! Not expecting it to handle like the ST or Z06 at all, I'm picturing it handling a little like a 300M special that my parents had when I was in high school (although I'm sure the SHO will be better with awd vs fwd). It was a boat but surprisingly nimble for its size. I also had a 95 taurus in high school and if the back seats are similar in leg room to that I'll be happy.

Haha, I bought my ST because my tuned 2003 GTI was literally falling apart as well. I thought I would miss it, about nope the ST is far superior lol.

You'll be happy with the daily performance. I wouldn't put an exhaust on it as it's meant to be a luxury car. I have put the Unleashed Performance Package on mine (plus a few others) but she still sounds stock. It's fun when people don't expect the quickness of your 4 door. Wife and kids have plenty of room, very comfortable, acceleration is good, and braking is good.

It doesn't feel like the braking is good until you drive something else of this size and try to make a sudden stop. Then you'll remember how it felt in the SHO and things will make sense. I changed my rotors and put on new pads and was still disappointed since I was comparing it to the supercharged Mustang I recently sold. If I drive my truck for a day or two and get back in the SHO, I can tell the difference immediately.

Enough about the brakes... You'll probably miss the "look at me" you get from the sports car but you'll get used to the "what the **** just happened" look you get from random drivers when a Taurus blows by.

Yeah, it takes alot of work, and will always in up keep for a black car. I have accepted it. I gets kept in the garage, and gets taken out when it is clear to minimize the spot cleaning I do to it.

I have always driven older cars, so this car is special to me because I bought it in such good condition. The ST is the same color and is daily driven, and in the 5 weeks I have owned it...it has been washed once...lol.

With good tires and H&R springs, it will out handle most cars on the road. You will be surprised.

I just traded my 2015 SHO 401A PP. I would have kept it $ permitting. (Bought a Raptor)
Best performance luxury car I've owned. I'm 5'11" 250# and it accommodated me, wife, and the children well. The 365hp was plenty, but I added a cold air intake and exhaust. I tried to keep it quiet but boost hp.
You'll be happy with this car.

I said no exhaust right up until I heard a neighbor's SHO that's muffler deleted. The sound is great but the turbo spool is what really got me. Some of us are still children at heart!

You have a video of it? I'd be afraid that it'd sound like a tuner instead of a muscle car.

I drove many Mustang convertibles, coupled with a Bronco, then an Expedition.
The SHO was a compromise, because due to health, the others were hard to enter/exit.
No compromise. It is better in snow than the Expedition, and faster than most of my old Mustangs. I have all the luxury options and always get 21+ miles to the gallon. Bought it new, and with 63,000 miles have spent money on nothing besides the tune and maintenance.
Go for it!
