I've been lurking this forum for a few days now and finally made an account today. I've been really thinking about getting a 2016+ SHO w/PP. Right now I have a 2009 Corvette Z06 and a 2014 Focus ST, the plan would be to sell both and get the SHO. The Corvette is awesome but I never use it, maybe putting a couple hundred miles on it in a good year (mainly due to being a family of 3 doesn't really work well with a two seat car). The ST has been extremely reliable, easy to mod/work on and it is also fun to drive but it is way too small inside and I don't get to use it much at all in the winter (not very good in the snow/ice). It is also not very comfortable so I always end up using my truck for long drives. I want something sporty/fast with awd and a little more luxury. My main question is: Will I be disappointed with a SHO's performance? I wouldn't be modding right away but definitely would at some point, would a full exhaust, thermostat, map sensor and tune put it in the low to mid 12's in the 1/4? I have never driven one or even sat in one yet so I still have a long way to go before I get one but I always thoroughly research cars before getting them.
Other questions I currently have:
Which colors are metallic paints? I like the magnetic, ruby red and blue colors but I cant tell from pictures if they have any flake in them or not.
I've read all about changing the ptu, trans and rdu fluid regularly, has anyone made a walk through on these procedures with pictures. I've searched up and down and can't seem to find anything decent with pictures or anything decent on youtube.
Would the H&R springs available for these end up lowering the car too much for pothole ridden southeast WI?
I have an extra set of 18 inch ST wheels, has anyone tried those on a SHO to use as winter wheels? Will they work?
Sorry for the long post guys. TIA!

I think most tuned cars with no other mods are doing around 12.6 in the 1/4.

Tuxedo black, and now my Metallic definitely do have metal flake in them. Can't say about anything else, but that Ruby I saw on a SHO a few years ago, and that was aweseome.

I cant directly answer any of your many questions. However, I have a shelby gt350r that I love, kinda in the same category as your z06. I had an SUV as a daily driver and I hated it. Just got my 2015 SHO w/pp and I really like it. Comfortable for long rides. Strong acceleration. Plenty of room for my family.
Every car is a compromise. But this compromise fits my wants and needs pretty well. My only complaint is I'd like to see a little better mpg. But again, it's a land cruiser, so..

I say by a mustang, and keep the ST. Therefore you can't and won't be disappointed with the performance. Plus there is no real limit to a mustang where a SHO you're limited to ~450whp before the tranny and ptu like to give out. Don't get me wrong though, the SHO is an extremely fun boat to drive....I would recommend the springs, the handling is a night and day difference

Thanks for the replies guys. @Poppa Diezal sounds like I'm kind of in the same boat as you, looking for a comfortable car with enough room that is still quick/sporty. I left out the mpg when I was talking to my wife about getting a SHO lol. Like I said with the ST, its fun to whip around in it but man is it tiny and uncomfortable. @krewat Glad to hear the magnetic has some flake in it as that is the wife's favorite color (and one of my favorites) that is available (I'm really partial to metallic paints).

@SLO_SHO I definitely would end up modding it but not shooting for that much hp to the wheels, I'd be more than happy with around 350 hp and 400tq to the wheels. I told the wife that selling the Corvette would be to pay off student loans and then trade the ST in towards a used SHO for a more comfortable daily that she could also drive if need be (she doesn't drive stick). I wouldn't be looking for another hot rod until around 2030 or so, after our son is grown and we have more time to joy ride and tinker with an extra car.

I went to look at the Mustang GT’s in 2013, with one kid already I knew that was not likely to happen. Test drove the SHO and loved it (actually scared my car salesman). Bought a white 2013 PP that day. Loved it so much, last year I traded for a 2017 white PP with 13k miles. I can’t get over how much I love this car - performance, comfortable ride, great interior tech (love my Apple Carplay), decent MPG, can put 2 cars in the back (including an infant seat), and 5 bodies in the trunk (that was the salesman’s pitch to me).

I have a 13 ST and 13 SHO. I love them both. I am a bigger little guy 5'9 250 lbs, and I agree about the ST being small. I am used to the Recaro seats, however I wouldnt be opposed to putting stock Focus seats in it. The ST is probably one of the most fun cars to drive, because it literally has a mind of its own. Point it straight and hammer it, who knows where it is going. I am going to put some springs on the ST next and let it ride.

The SHO always puts a smile on my face. Mine is modded and tuned and it gets down. Is it going to beat a C6Z in a straight line, or on the track? Nope...but street light to street light I havent lost yet. In the mountains, with all the upgrades on my SHO I can put myself in good position to stick with most cars.

I don't drive my SHO every day, but when I do she gets her legs stretched. Great for long drives, great for messing with people, great to wax people and say, "it's just a Taurus".

The SHO is an amazing car, and it always leaves me with a smile. However, they are an investment and sometimes you have to pay to play the game.

I have my mod and ownership thread here. I can probably give you a insight about these cars.

the sho is soo fun from the sleeper stand point, your ST wheels will most likely not clear the breaks on a PP. with just a tune you will be 12.6 to 13.2 depending on your tuner and the DA. With a family works good with small people in the back just limited with full size people in the back. As for color the green grey and black all have metallic in them not sure about the ruby but it is beautiful all on it's own. I have the white tri cote and by far the white cars are faster....;) it has a pearl over the white so not metallic. as for the fluids all are easy except the Ptu a PP car 13 and up. many write ups and I did just do mine this weekend and have found even easier way to do it.

My entire life I had never had the same car more than a year and a half until I bought my SHO. Drove it for 3 years and bought a newer one. I don't think you would be disappointed in the performance. Tune it immediately tho, whole different car and no sense in wasting time. You would not regret that for sure. I'm a year into my second SHO and all I would say is if you ever drive more than 3 hours straight, get one with massaging seats. That and a heated steering wheel are two things that I would now call necessities in all future car purchases. The metallic black and the white both look amazing when clean.

I have had several family sports sedans, Magnum, Buick regal gs, G8 GT, and now 13+PP SHO. Once it is tuned it's a keeper. Plenty comfortable family lives it, giant trunk. AWD is awesome. I would get the PP! The SHO is the red light to red light, 1/8th mile king. I am sure I would beat your vett to 60...hellcats take to 74 before they can pass me. Only car that beat me to 60 was a AWD 911. I beat it the first time when I surprised it! On cruise sea level below 70 mph I can get over 30mpg. I avg 27 on highway. With the pp keep mph under 74

Here's an example of my 2018 Metallic. Sorry for the bad focus job... but you get the idea.

I have a 2018 SHO - the color is Burgundy Velvet Tinted Metallic Clearcoat and man when the sun shines on this paint it sparkles...the flakes are multicolored or at least it looks that way but could be an illusion...have received many compliments on the color. Love the SHO...on my 2nd now...miles of smiles for sure.

My 2019 C7 does 11.80’s right off the showroom. But it can’t beat the 1.8 60foot times of my sho, my favorite car to drive of everything I’ve ever owned. The sho rules at the stop light.

By the way,

I am looking for a used SHO, how Canni tell quickly that an SHO has the Performance Package “PP” in it?
I mean how can I tell quickly while looking through ads etc. and the dealer doesn’t have any idea????

Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, no spare tire in the trunk, portable air compressor with tire slime.
