Hey guys,
I am buying subframe bushings for the SHO to replace the stock ones that are falling apart. I was wondering if I should buy natural aluminums for $85 or should i get hard anodized version for $105? What is the difference between the two?
thanks

the anodizing is a coating on the bushing to prevent rust. no one has ever said anything about their bushings rusting though. if you are real worried about the rust, then get the anodized.

Aluminum does not rust - It will devlope some oxidation over time. Anodizing is not a coating - it's a process that chemically speeds up the aging (oxidation) process in a controlled enviroment - which prevents any further oxidation from occuring. If your worried about the mill finish ones (no anodizing) getting ruined don't be - those bushings will be there long after your subframe has rusted away.

It's a dye they add when the aluminum is in solution. Kinda like washing new red towels with your whites - you get pink to red undies depending how long you let them soak.

From the web:

"There are many different types and purposes of anodization.... The process creates an anode out of the [metal to be anodized] in a chemical bath and progressively builds an oxide film through electrolysis. As voltage is varied, the oxide thickens and a color spectrum is created. The final product is a dense adherent oxide film."

They still use dyes to get the blues, reds greens etc, etc. Clear anodizing has no color - but will get darker in color the longer it is run. Bronze colors are done the same way as clear but are run longer and at a higher current.

Are the $85 aluminum, and $105 anodized SFB's the prices forever, or just for that group buy a couple months ago? Thanks.

A guy on eBay yhis week said he'd do $100 per set, at 5 people. I'll be in the market soon. Anyone else? Or, better, if the lower price is still available, I'm up for it.

Thanks.

I had the e-mail from the guy that he sent out a few weeks ago. But I just went to look for it and it's gone (out of my AOL mailbox - AOL automatically deleted it).

I do remember, though, that he said the batch of SFBs would be done around the end of January. Does anyone have this guy's e-mail address so I can contact him again? I think his name was Jon something. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

SFB's are "in process" trying to fit them in between the "real" work! I've received a batch of checks and orders, but we will still have some available from the first batch. (and since we will have made up the fixtures and done the CNC programming, more shouldn't be a problem!)
