Hey all -

I'd like to eventually put in my 200 watt aftermarket amp, but since there's already a factory amp (non-JBL car), is it possible to piggyback somehow the amps as to avoid wires running down each side of the car? And when you install an aftermarket head unit, does the factory amp still work?

man oh man

yes you can still use the factory amp with a special amp wiring harness/connector, fact is that you will have to get a new amp anyway, because the bass will make it so yo can't hear anything but that, that sucks, it does get old, plus you want all the notes to ring out when you have the ladies in the car, you don't wanna be, "well just listen to that bass! Yeah I know you really can't hear the music, but baby is that what's important?" She will pull the lil rubber stamper out of her purse and stamp loser on your forehead!!! Chicks don't dig that sh@t! Seriously, or for very long, LOL I could expand, but NAW, that is a can o worms that needs to stay bottled up. Seriously you might as well go with aftermarket stuff, you can survive for a bit, but it will get old, and DO NOT RUN POWER AND SIGNAL WIRING DOWN THE SAME SIDE, OR EVEN CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER, you will induce RFI (Radio Frequency Induction) or corrupt the signal by having/running signal(music/voice) wires to close to the alternator, computer(which can Fu#k up your computer also) or any high voltage or frequency causing component. Just think of a stream ( come on everyone!) nice, calm, flowing, all the sudden the stream flows past a strip mine, and explosives are going off and land is coming crashing down to the earth! Are you going to be the calm lil person you were prior to the stripmine? NO WAY, that is kinda signal intergrity 101, just get you a good solid amp, I suggest Memphis, they are cheap, and not expensive, get the memphis belle or something to that effect, JL audio is another quality company, and run you some 2/4 guage wire, nice fuse in engine bay, some good twisted cables to plug into the head unit back to plug into the amp, have all your wires for signal go down one side, the power, the other, and tad_da! you got it. Put a relay on the amp turn on wire, the blue with white stripe, from head unit, and you can put a couple fans on the amp to keep her cool, remember that electricity flows from negative to postitive, so a ground is the most important thing you can have!, also , make sure that all your grounds in the back are to the same spot or you will get a ground loop, or buzz in the system, and on that note make sure to strip a circle of paint away from the point of ground, to get the best contact, whew, time for another keystone! LOL hope this helps!!!

hey my email is [email protected], if you have any other questions, really just post em here, I'll get em.

You might be able to get adapters for the wiring harnesses from the oem (stock) amp to plug straight into the new amp. I WOULDN'T "piggyback" and use the stock amp w/ new amp. The oem amp is so weak it won't matter.

Yes, you can put in an aftermarket HU using the oem amp. The oem amps are so weak, though, that the amp inside the new HU is probably stronger.

Best is aftermarket amp w/ aftermarket HU. You can use the existing wiring. (Buy an adapter to avoid slashing the wiring in the dash.)

I recently took the Kenwood HU out of my old SHO (now my Dad's) w/none JBL. Anyway, now the whole stereo sounds flat its amazing what a high power HU will do. Mids and highs sounds even better in my current SHO w/JBL but the bass sucks cause my sub is in the middle of burning out the voice coil. What you want to get is the wiring harness with the stock amp bi-pass pigtail. You could then cut the pigtail and use the stock wiring. Although I would still probably run a bigger power wire.
