Good Lord! After a $191.00 diagnostic test at Ford they then quoted me $1,202.53 to fix my radio lol WTF. The part alone is $800.00 to do it myself. Nothing is too good for my baby. I remember going to Radio Shack back in the day when a stereo blew lol

Strangest thing, it worked all day Sunday during a road trip. Must have stopped and started the car 5 times. Come Monday morning nothing

My Bluetooth and sync system stopped working out of the blue. After a $135 diag fee from Ford, they want $1600 to replace the APIM. No thanks.

I'm guessing that what they're talking about is the touchscreen unit at the top center of the dashboard. If I'm wrong feel free to disregard it, however, if you don't mind pulling the interior apart yourself it looks like it should be a fairly straightforward job you can do with hand tools any auto shop would have. The video I showed here is a SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 conversion, however, if its just a case of replacing OEM for OEM I don't see why you would have to reprogram the computer like you would for SYNC 2 to 3. I'm leaving this here because if I'm right I don't think this justifies $400 in labor.

Radio is very generic in this application. It could be the screen, the APIM, or the receiver. They are all pretty much in the same spot and call of 1.6 hours labor to remove. $1202.53 - $800 leaves you with $402.53. The diagnostic is usually 1 hour and it is not uncommon to see dealers that charge $170-200/hr. Some even charge more for the first hour and lower it the more hours there are. So at $191 x 1.6 it is $305.60. Add in shop fees and taxes and it is easy to see the bill hitting $1200. Top that off with the fact that Sync 3 Display, Receiver and APIM are listed as discontinued parts and it gets hard to find to do it on your own.

That being said, doing a Sync 3 conversion on the Sync 2 or replacing the Sync 3 parts with junkyard is a little time consuming the first time but actually quite easy and can save a lot of money. I can do it quite fast now after doing 3 of them. Get the video or a tutorial, order your parts from Car-Part and set aside a day to do it. If you get the parts from a car with matching options, you do not even have to program it. I put a 2019 with matching options in my 2015 with no programming.

Watched the video that you reference and it's insane the number of trim pieces to remove, plus the sequence but totally doable. My worry is getting it back together, but if I could find a $400 junk yard unit I would go for it. Hate to say it, but I have gotten used to ear buds or just driving in complete silence and listening to the car. For such a fast car it is the most low key, efficient and boring engine and exhaust note with the windows up. Just crazy listening to the tranny, PTU etc. and what's going on. Will be happy to have Navigation, phone and loud ass music back however much the cost.

I followed the video step by step once.... pulled it out and put back together now 3 times. Ot hard and thankfully ford uses the same screw type.

My only suggestion when removing the trim for the start button and trunk, don't lift up from the length of the trim piece, use a tool on the sides of the trim left and right side pry toward you. The clips break easy if you twist or use the length of the trim. Be careful with those two pieces.

They go back together even if the tabs break, but I replaced mine when then broke. I don't want my dash parts to creek or make noises. Ford did a great job making it all snap into place.

Don't let my cautions slow you down, it's worth learning it.

Oh afterthought, u might need a few screws, I lost them in the opening of the center console. Yup I used an old t shirt.... but those f'ers managed to find the openings.
