I've got a 93 SHO and not long ago ABS light came on (and stays on all the time)..I took it to a Ford Dealer and I was told that it needs new ECU. New ECU costs about $750.I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with ECU..For some reason I don't think it is the ECU, I think it's one of the ABS sensors.

yeah ecu my ass, and there not $750. get a used one, there just as good as a new one for like 100 bucks tops, iv sold the 94-95 auto computer for 30 bucks. Its more then likely the sensors or the abs box thing up front I forget what its called. I have one if you end up needing that.:thumb:

Edit: have you ran the codes?

You need to go back and slap that guy.. I remember you posting something else about that dealership. You should really stay away from that place, seems they like to tell stories.

Instructions for pulling the ABS codes are in the sticky at the top of the forum.

Once you have the code(s), better advice can be given.

The term ECU is another name for the PCM which has nothing to do with the ABS sub-system. The ABS computer is a fairly common failure item. It is not unique to the SHO, so a junkyard is a good source for a replacement should you need one.

In addition to the above:
The anti-lock brake warning lamp may work in conjunction with the (red) brake warning lamp. Are you getting just the anti-lock brake lamp or is the red brake lamp also on? The anti-lock brake system will flash fault codes for certain faults (failures). Are you getting any intermittent flashing of the anti-lock brake lamp? If the dealership extracted fault codes while doing their diagnosis what were the fault codes?
Did they hook up a "Super Star II" (or the equivilant) tester to your ABS system?

No PCM is power control module...ECU is Electronic Control Module that every Ford vehicle has for ABS..But people have different names for parts :D

The light that stays on was actuall ABS light (Orange)..Well my dad took the bulb out now but that should not make a difference.. Now the red light quit working years ago and orange one last year..

if the relay is worn out, the ABS computer will throw a 'broken computer' code regardless. You can test it by hooking up up straight to the battery and see if the terminals close. It's only $6, so you might not even bother doing that.

I second that response. BTDT years ago. Don't spend alot of money on a 7 dollar relay. **** I disconnected mine and cleaned the relay and harness connectors and never had a problem during the 8 year period it remained in use.

Where is this relay of which you speak?

P.S.
PCM= Powertrain Control Module ECM= Engine Control Module ECU= Engine Control Unit. 3 names for the same device, none of which describe the ABS computer which sits right next to the IRCM/ICRM/CCRM/etc. Lots of parts in cars have the same name.
