96' SHO with a P0411 issue.

Alright, so driving home my car threw this code.. found out it was a Secondary Air Injection: Incorrect Flow. I read some of the threads about this but didn't find the answers I was really looking for.

-Is it ok to drive with the code on?

-Will if affect my gas mileage?

-Could having a 3rd cat delete trigger this? (even though the 3rd cat was cut out a year ago)

-Could cleaning the MAF sensor resulted in the code coming on?

I appreciate any input, just want to make sure it's safe to drive with this code on before I actually do it.


edit: also I haven't noticed any change in the way the car drives.

The SAI only is on when the car is first started. It does not affect the gas mileage or performance of the car. It will not hurt anything to drive with the fault present.


DTC P0411/P1411 indicates Secondary Air not detected. In order to test the pump, it must be capable of driving the HO2S lean.

NOTE:
Some applications have one or two AIR Diverter valves.

Possible causes:

-- Electric AIR Pump fault.

-- Hose from Electric AIR Pump blocked.

-- Hose from Electric AIR Pump leak.

-- AIR Bypass Solenoid stuck open/closed.

-- AIR Bypass Solenoid leak/blocked

Mine has started flagging the same code..It will only flag if I stomp on it really hard, then it will stay on.

Sad thing I tossed one a few months ago when I moved :(

I am in st.louis and my 97 had has the same code for 3 years only problem i notice that is when it hot out or i drive a lot the car will die and not start back up unless you turn the key off for about a min. Then it will start as you can tell i really dont drive it much but now i am going in to replace v cover gasket so will be looking at cams oh i already change air pump with a used one same code ane we are a emssion state so until i get this right thinking about just selling out it go 97k on it i only put maybe 3k on it and who has cd mag.AND BY THE AC COLD BUT CANT USED IT BECAUSE CAR WILL ALWAYS die BELIEVE BECAUSE OF 411

Had that same problem in my 1997, turned out to be a cooked #8 coil pack. Took forever to diagnose. Not saying it will fix yours, but it's a suggestion.
