I have mixed thoughts about the trans on my 93 ATX. Some people have been tellin me that it's good and should last me for 100K miles but others have told me that it is just straight up crap! I would like to know what is really up with the trans frome experienced guys who own or have owned an ATX. Appreciate the help guys. shrug

Also what is the best motor oil i should put in my car and can we put red top batteries on our cars?

well it depends on your driving style on how long the tranny will last. First the cons of the 93 are a sluggish shift program from ford, second you need a larger tranny cooler, too much heat can and will **** a tranny. third the internal parts are not as good as the later years. If you plan on keeping the car stock and drive it with care you should not have much trouble, but if you start putting on some bolt-ons then start saving for a tranny. just my 2 cents. btw do some searches on the atx and it will help you out, on the oil if its stock just use what ford says to use

Welcome to the forum! Check out the following sites for some good reading and sources for aftermarket/stock parts:

As far as the motor oil/filter choice goes, you're opening up a can of worms. I recommend using the "search" feature which is located to your upper right. You will find plenty of threads where this topic is discussed. I personally use the oversized Motorcraft FL1A filter with Castrol GTX 5W-30 oil. Whatever you do, DO NOT use a fram oil filter.

Good luck.

Actually the PCM programming did suck in 93' It is regularly accepted that a PCM from a 94' or 95' car greatly improves shifting in a 93' car. The addition of an LPM helps to.

Nothings sluggish about mine with 137k! Quick firm shifts and that's it. It's had a couple filter changes in it's life too.

perhaps I worded it wrong, sorry, I should of said that it could use the upgrade to help it improve shifts.
