I am the original owner and have 131,000 miles. At 100,000 I replaced the plugs and wires plus replaced valve cover gaskets. The valves were also adusted. The car has been babied and I am starting to get a little slippage between 2nd and 3rd. Does this mean I have to overhaul or can something be done to correct the problem. Thanks

A little slippage here and there isn't the end of the world. However, once you can't get into 4th gear, it's time for a rebuild. Ie if you press your overdrive switch, and nothing happpens.

Have you checked the level of your transmission fluid lately? How often have you had it flushed? If you haven't been doing it on 30k mile intervals, it's too late to start now. Just make sure the transmission always has enough fluid.

The 93 ATX trannys are the weakest ones, and are the most likely to go.

More than likely it is something in the valve body like a broken clip in one of the piston assy's. which is common. Or you could have a bad 2/3 shift accumulator piston/"O"-ring. Unfortunatly the tranny has to be dropped out to remove the valve body.

However, it is very helpful to readers if such pertinent info is clearly stated in the posted question.

Some people just don't put a ton of crap in their signature.
