I have been troubleshooting the vacuum system to identify any leaks. The original brake booster check valve was faulty, so I installed a universal Dorman 80189 replacement, but this did not resolve the issue. I then inspected the component circled in the attached image. Initially, it was installed in the wrong orientation, and I was not getting any vacuum at the brake booster check valve side. After reversing it, I started observing suction, although the arrow on the part still wasn’t pointing in the expected direction. This leads me to suspect that this particular component may not belong in the system at all and that the previous owner may have improperly routed the vacuum lines and components. I am looking for guidance on the correct vacuum hose routing and ideally a reference image showing the proper setup for this vehicle. Any advice or documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! It's not clear to me from the images or your description what your concerns are, so I've asked a few questions below.

1. Did the power assist for the brakes ever work since you've owned the vehicle?
2. Are both of these check valves in the vacuum hose to the brake booster (so you have 2 valves in the same vacuum line)?
3. Have you checked for vacuum at the booster, or only that after reversing the valve you installed you now have vacuum at the booster side of the valve (rather than at the booster itself)?

The arrow should point towards the intake manifold. I can find no description of the operation or purpose of the double check valve or how to test it. The vacuum tube assembly is only available as an assembly from the intake to the booster.
