That one apparatus off of the side of the intake is an EGR meaning that your SHO is a California emission model.

I've got a California 89. I'm waiting till spring to do an upper 60K. When I do, I'm deleting the EGR on it. I already have several spare intakes and a few spare exhaust manifolds. I have to do a head swap so my manifold will just come off when I pull the head.

It lives! The tps bolts are 5x25. It drives good for a 27 year old taurus. But the CE light comes on after a few minutes driving then goes away when you turn it off. I'll pull the codes later. And it kinda hints for idle. Not bad, just.....off. and it's not near as powerful as it should be. Something in the clutch is ticking too. If I clutch in it stops. And it squeaks, rattles, and makes all the usual noises. Still needs tons of work. I may start a new thread or 7 next time I work on it. Or I can post it here, whatever works.

Clutch in, no tick/rattle=TOB. Was it making the noise before?

Afa the engine light on/off go back and check your connectors. One vital question, is it times properly? Meaning did you line up the points on the upper cams with the white lines on the belt? May seem trivial but with as many times as I’ve done this, if those white marks aren’t lined up on the initial timing you’ll be down on power.

It's possible that it could have a SHOnut Ceramic Throw Out Bearing just based on the looks of some of the other stuff. Ceramic TOBs rattle when the clutch is out. The rattle goes away when you push the clutch in. If it shifts good I wouldn't worry about it.

It is time correctly. When I was attempting to do the timing belt everything lined up. But no, it wasn't making that noise before I was working on it and it sat 8 months. But it definatly needs a new clutch. I think once I get my next student loan I'm gonna pull the motor and do what needs to be done.

You’re doing a LOT...a lot a lot. Just relax. Sit back and breathe and have another Coors Light for me....that’s my go to SHO beer for it all and I’m having one or 10 now. Ahem...

Be that as it may, just really relax man, you’ll get this car done. Mine is a work in progress, shit it took me 3+ SHO’s to finally get into the groove of working on these cars and after that it was all downhill afterwards.

Enjoy the rare piece of automotive HISTORY that you have sitting in your driveway and that you have the aptitude to be able to work on it. So many ppl scoff and look at me funny when I tell them how “EASY” it is to work on these cars but they just don’t get it.

Relax...breathe, take a sip, and revisit it at a later date.

Btw to the previous poster the complained about how much oil and dirt under you engine bay...*** DAT! You’re operative is to get it running properly FIRST, the rest will come. You’re not gunning for a concourse award winner are ya? ShiT I’ve got the ORIGINAL valve covers from my FIRST SHO Plus still sitting around waiting to be powder coated.

Life happens. You’re in no rush, you’ve got forever to realize your dream with this car. Cheers

Freddy, ditch the Light BS and switch to Original Coors. That watered down crap isn't worth the can it comes in.

What I've learned with these cars is it takes a special set of tools to work on them. Once you know what tool does this and what tool is needed for that, these cars are a breeze to work on. I swapped the radiator in my 89 the other night in 20 minutes flat. All I needed was an 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and a flat head screw driver to get the pigtails apart. Knowing what you need before hand makes it so much easier. That and knowing what doesn't need to go back on to make the next time easier. Every SHO I get has to go thru a delete phase to clean up certain things. Lol

Chad, I’m a lightweight if you don’t remember my checking out early at your cookout lmao.

But yes, the “delete phase” when you get a SHO is HEAVY once you’ve worked on these cars for so long . I mean when someone questions something on the forums I sometimes scratch my head and think “is that a question?” but then i remember that these cars are coming to a NEW generation. **** I can just about do a TB/WP/CPS in two hours FLAT with one hand tied behind my back now and if the SHO cuts off on me on the freeway I INSTANTLY why and what.

Get in tune with your SHO because when they’re running right. They’re more reliable than humans lol

Oh, that reminds me. I need a new all aluminum radiator too. Yeah, I'm slowing down now. I got the bitch running. Now its gonna be a piece at a time. Sort of. But check my join date. I'm no rookie to the sho, just a rookie to this in depth! I really do appreciate all the help you guys have given. And chad, I'll keep to the right beers. Otherwise I'd really **** this car up!

Man, I remember when joining you had a limit on the size of your profile pic. And bizzy yelled at me for one I chose because, at the time the apple logo was 'think different' and I had a pic that had bad, bad people that thought different and she made me change it. But back then Prophet used to post all the time. And greenbeanmtx. We actually had a dfw meet with us, texantony, and a few others. Toolman was actually gonna use my blk/blk90 for his new turbo car. But he found one closer. Man, I miss what this forum used to be.

I took a video of it running. Pick it apart and tell me EVERYTHING you see/hear/feel is wrong.

Other than the exhaust I can't hear much. maybe vacuum leak under the hood. If you have underhood noises plugging the exhaust leak will help reveal them. I see a little movement of driver side muffler. That may be normal, separated exhaust pipe related or hanger maybe. You hear a rattle other than exhaust?

I went and got the exhaust fixed after the video. I'll put another up tomorrow. The drivers side hanger is missing, it's just a redneck fix that broke. I had the exhaust shop just tack it back on. $65 and they rewelded the resonator and the hanger. Now its semi-quite again. :(
