ok this this weekend i went up to the 1/8th mile grove city race track street night, and my best time i got was a 9.96 at 75mph is that pretty good for a mtx with no cats, some what aftermarket y pipe, SHOSource tuned lpm, bored out runners, tanks and butterfly valves, cold air, SHOShop underdrive pulley 3 peice set. but i go up against my buddies 97 cobra with exhast cold air and 3.73 gears and didn't lose by more than a car and a half and be got 9.36 and i got a 10.006. i did have some one taking videos and the sweet thing was is that my cars intake could be heard over the exhaust of every car i raced, it sounded pretty awesome, ill see if i can get the videos up...
let me know if that is somewhat good for what i ahve done, thanks in advance!

Your 75 MPH traps show that the car is well capable of hitting 9.5 in the 1/8th. A 9.9 Would be the equivalent to about a 15.3-15.4 1/4 Run. My 14.7@95 in my near stock 95 netted me a 9.5@75 1/8th time. The good news is that your car sounds like it's healthy. The bad news is you need to learn how to Launch it. I bet your 60' times were no faster then a 2.4. 60' times are what make or break a good 1/4 run.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Pretty much exactly what he said.

A 75 MPH trap in the 1/8 is a very healthy trap speed. I'm guessing you're pulling a 2.5-2.7 60ft time, if not worse. Practice your launches to get that time down to a 2.2 and you'll be looking at a 9.5 in the 1/8. Like Sam's car, my old 89 SHO ran 9.5 @ 75 in the 1/8 and a 14.7 in the 1/4.

i run a 10.3-10.5 @ 74-76 mph in my 99 :(

My best is 10.01@76mph w/2.7 60'. But I'm sure now that my exhaust isn't restricted, I'd do better (cats I had installed previously were crooked, giving me about 1/2" diameter in my hacked up crapola y-pipe...now I have a shoshop atx y-pipe with gutted cats).

Regardless, he 75mph is good for a stock SHO.

yeah i'm just jealous that he's in the 9's and I cant even get low 10s with the same traps lol

I haven't gone back since getting the xcal tuner, new tires, and opening up the exhaust. maybe i'll try and get back there sometime and see what I can do.

i was having trouble launching it not want to destroy the stock differental! but my best 60foot was a 2.42 and i got the best time when i kept it in 2nd and right as i went through the trap i bounced off the 7500 rev limiter. when i put it in 3rd the best i got was 10.006. but it was my last pass i could make and it was my goal to get in the 9s and the car does have qutie a few mods, if your near stock one did the quarter in much better time.. but if its a respectable time im happy! :)
thanks guys!

It's going to take time to learn your car if you haven't been out there much. You're going to need to find what tire pressure you need to hook up and what RPM to launch and feather the throttle from until the tires bite hard and it feels like something just messed up in the drivetrain. The first time you get a bite, it'll scare you for something just broke, but you want to mock what you did to get the car to do that because it's ideal for a good launch.

I bet your 330 sucks and is around 48-50mph if you're passing in second gear at the eighth. Any time I passed in second gear, the run was a failure and was 9.9+. My 89 trapped 76-77mph bone stock and ran 9.4-9.5's, my 60's were 2.1-2.2's.

wow that is impresive... and i had had the best luck when i did more of a rolling take off, slippped the clutch just for a bit to get the car moving, then i dropped it the rest of the way, and it would usually spin up to about 3000rpm and then hook right before the secondaries would kick in. and the track i was at doesnt show the speed at the 330ft mark. and i was my first time up there this year, and once last year. but i wish mine stock would do that, 9.5! but i do have a rear motor mount out, would that take about from any time or speed?

With any kind of 60' time of 2.2 or better, you should have sub-10-second 1/8th ETs. I domn't have timeslips from my V6 SHOs in electronic form, but the times are pretty similar.

Yep, it takes a ton of practice on an MTX to get good times, mostly related to good 60' times. Tire pressures casn be key, and you have to play around to find the best setup. Ideal pressures wil be in the 25-40 psi range. You can't runn below that on streeet tires and expect a good time.

wow i thought that the gen 3s were much slower than gen 1&2's? but maybe not. and the tire pressure i was running was about 30 psi. and its very hard with any manual tranny, to cut a good light and be consistent. i drove one of my dads drag car and that was simple compared to the mtx. its a 85 tbird with a 466 iron block iron head old truck block that makes 603hp and 600ft lbs at the crank. oh boy that was amazing. it is a powerglide so just let go of the trans brake and slap the shifter once. the best time i got in the 1/8th was 6.56 at 112. its an awesome experience to have especially driving that when im 16.
