The screen is burnt out in mine, so I pulled the dash bezel and the climate control unit. Some of the other bulbs worked, so I tried a known working bulb from another part of the unit. When placed in the screen it didn't work or was so dim, it didn't look like it worked. Maybe the electrical ribbon connecting the screen to the hardware is bad??? Not only that, it uses an odd bulb, a #37 Ford bulb according to the panel. It's not the standard size bulb found in the Gen 2 EATCs.

Anyone know anything about these 89 EATCs? I'm finding out now that if I thought finding parts for the 90 was difficult, this one is even worse. There are so many things specific to the 89. Some I luck up if they can be used on a regular Taurus. SHO specific interior parts/pieces...forget it.

The majority of the unique to '89 parts are in the dash steering wheel area. The climate may be the hardest to find. I think a large % had the manual controls. Of the 5 I've had and another handful or so I've seen at a j/y, only 1 was auto. 1 of the few '89 parts I don't have atleast 1 extra of.

Well, I've found you can go to www.car-part.com and it's a nation wide junkyard database search engine. I've found some on there but am hesitant to buy another crap unit. I'm not thrilled about paying 90 bucks for a new one, but I may have to eventually when I have more $ set aside for this unexpected, unplanned project.

I did a search for some 89 SHO seats and most had notes that they were worn/torn. I called about some and they were shot as well. I'm not so sure mine can be recovered because some of the driver's bolster is "chewed" off, so I need some with good foam.

Your screen probably still works, when they are at their best, they are hard to read.
Do the little lights come on and stay on when you select different functions?
Does the blend door work, or easier to diagnose, when you pound on the red or blue buttons, do you get more heat out of the heater?
Try it at night and have a flashlight with you and try to see if the numbers are there, but very faint.

Thanks to NORMAN for point me in the right direction. Brand new in box OEM 89 EATC for 60 bucks shipped on Ebay...just bought it. I've already spent $100 on this car in the 2 days I've had it. Another addicting money pit that will keep me broke all year.

Edit: After I bought it, the seller relisted another one, so he has more. $49.99 plus around 11 bucks shipping. Excellent price for a brand new unit. Cheapest found so far for the 86-89 style.

The numbers are there but hard to read, they change when I change the temp. Not sure if the BDA is screwed. I get ice cold air...couldn't get heat but then again, couldn't see the screen to know if I'd turned it to warm enough. All the other lights/controls work. I just picked up a new one anyway but will keep this one as a spare since it still works somewhat. If the BDA happens to be screwed, at least it's stuck on cold and not hot. I can live with that. Need a/c here but don't need heat.

Yeah he has more. Good seller, got it reasonably quick, NOS just as stated, plugged it in and it works great (except for the fact that I have a bad BDA....damn). At least it's stuck on the cold part...need a/c in the South but don't need heat. That repair can be put off or written off.
