Okay so The other day I took my 89' to FPS in Mableton, GA for Doug to have a go at tuning it on the Dyno. The results show a very healthy 3.3L with a large restriction in the y-pipe area.

It put down 192.9hp and 207.9tq to the tires.

The mods list is as follows.
3.3L 10.6:1 compression Wiseco pistons in a 3.2L block
3.0L cams in port matched freshly shimmed heads.
Extrude honed intake runners
40mm Big Bore Butterflies
80mm Lincoln MAF
open element conical filter(all we had at the time)
Custom dyno tuned SCT chip by Doug Lewis
Spec stage 2 clutch
heat wrapped restrictive Magnaflow stock replacement Y-pipe
Custom 2.5" mandrel bent single exhaust with magnaflow parts

Doug figured since it was running out of breath after 6k that the Magnaflow replacement Y-pipe was a cork in the larger displacement engines power.
I will either have Doug build me one of his high flow y-pipes to free it up some or have a good exhaust shop make me a 2.25" high flow unit in Texas.
I will also replace the original coilpack with an ACCEL unit and put my extra 8.2 Thundervolt wires on it and check/clean the plugs. The car has soo much pull on the street in any gear because of the torque curve. I asked Doug if he could move the secondary opening lower in the rpm range due to the extra displacement but he wasn't able to do it. The pulls were done in 4th gear like everybody else does.
I will try to find a scanner soo I can post up the dyno sheet so you can see how she runs.

Over all I'm happy with how good she runs and its reliability soo far. I'll clean her up some more and make some subtle improvements to personalize it to my tastes.

Comments and or suggestions?:thankyou:

Yeap, it would be nice to see the dyno sheet ... with A/F ratio.

I would guess that the cams are more of a limit than the exhaust...

Well, FWIW, here's my stock-compression, non-degreed, no chipped or MAF'd 3.2L with said magnaflow pipe. I'd guess something else is up & not necessarily the Y-Pipe being the 1st guess, but hey, could be. Red Graph.

Green's the '84 911, Blue's my old blower car.

Wow...truth be told, I'm kinda disappointed. the torque's a bit high, but them ain't all that far from stock numbers.....

adding 15% driveline loss, you're lookin at 221hp and 239lb/ft of torque. T'would be interesting to see where the peaks are compared to a stock dyno chart, though.

Yeah I'm pretty dissapointed with it but it runs soo damn well. I ran it as I got it after it was sitting dormant for about a year. That was also on 87 octane gas and a conservative tune. I'll do my thing and see what she makes afterwards. I'm down in Lake City,Fl now and will be for the next 2 weeks. I will try to redyno it in Houston after I get it over there.

Here's the dyno graph. He didn't put the AFR on it but he tuned it to be right in between 13.0 and 14.0 Took acouple tries due to the decreased resolution of the 80mm Lincoln MAF.

Anybody have any ideas as to why this big displacement SHO is dying uptop? It only has 1700 miles on the new engine/tranny/suspension combo. I changed the oil out with some 5w-30 royal purple and Motorcraft FL-1A filter to make sure it was fresh for the dyno. Supposedly the engine had all of its sensors and such replaced during the rebuild. I will check 2morrow to make sure the throttle is opening all the way. You never know.

Damn its too bad we can't see the AF ratio. I think 13-14:1 is way too lean. I find I make more TQ in the 12.5 range. You should be making way more power than that, and I douth that that y-pipe is causing a much of a restriction as you think.

I had similar numbers on my 3.2L with a magnaflow Y-Pipe last summer:

194HP/193TQ

Since then I've put in an Accel coil to replace my dying stocker, 8.2 Thundervolts, and cleaned my K&N for the first time since 2005

When it warms up a bit I'll have to run again and see if the butt dyno improvements translate to actual dyno improvements.

sad how the HP drops off like that and the tq climbs

werid but sounds like needs to do some more looking around.
put the stock y pipe on and see what it looks like then just to rule out the y pipe

Ummm, how come your car's HP & Tq curves don't cross at 5250?

I do like the pre-secondaries tq though.

exactly what I thought when I saw it.

Look closer at the graph, different scales for tq and hp, makes it appear to move the crossover point

Even with the different scales, I'm pretty sure the steepness of the curve would change vertically, but has no bearing on the horizontal crossover point (rpm). The X axis is consistent, rpm vs rpm. Something's up there.
