Nope, Pat has been running a completely stock long block (from the throttle body to the exhaust manifolds) on his white '91 making 445whp. The only time he has had any problems is when his water injection quit working. By personally seeing how well his car has responded to WI, I went the same route.

His '89 SHO (race car) is the one with the forged 3.2 pistons running 17lbs of boost with no charge cooling at the moment. This setup has yeilded 520whp and now he is adding a 2-stage water injection kit and most likely, more boost.
......
Jason is the only one that has ever mentioned this, and I have never seen any actual proof of this.

No he's not... Ransom has too and he probably knows about as much as I do on how that motor is built. The car is fast... While on track, I broke the tires loose in 3rd gear on a straight (and that's with 9" rims on track tires and ~5,500 above sea level).

No need to give you proof... We're not trying to impress you ;)

That car and drivetrain is pretty well known, actually, and the 520whp in reference to it has been cited by other knowledgable and reputable folks as well.

we should have a tv SHOw made of just tim and tony in a build off to see who can have the fastest sho by the 07 convention. It reminds me of tim the tool man vs. bob vila. I dont remember who won but that was one of my favorite episodes.

shouldnt we change this to anther thread name like 700 whp pull instead see who will pull that off

i will surpass the 700 to the wheel mark in march when i get my motor back and am able to put it in after bootcamp. everything about the motor will be custom. 1 of my teacher at school right now says he will do everything to it to handle 20+ boost and direct port nos and safley and will also be reliable!! i will have proff in march. everything for motor i estimate aroundless then 20,000 and my trans teacher will rework my mtx to handle that power with no prob

Cool, let us know how it goes, and how those 'trans teacher' mods hold up.

street wise , past 400hp , its not fun anymore.

?huh? My car is not fun??? Dang!!

Relybility goes to crap as well.

Really, other than the trans (which can be addressed by shot peening or by getting the SHOnut trans) and halfshafts (again, SHOnut remedies this) there are no factors with a high HP SHO. I have not seen a single well tuned engine destroyed as a direct result of boosting. In fact, they probably last better than your average NA SHO, simply because most of them are taken care of very well (adequate maintenance and fluid changes, etc). My turbo was just as trouble free as my other SHO's (again, short of the trans always breakin'!!)

Obviously, you're not speaking from experience. My car will drive the same at 300hp as it will at 600hp. The clutch is the only real hard part about driving and that stays the same, but power goes up to help overcome it.

It was VERY fun at 381whp and I desired more power, even on the street. For reliability.... I never had anything break due solely to the extra power. The main failure I had was heating up the oil and running it hard. Yes, the extra power made it happen faster, but I knew it was too hot and wanted another lap. With more power, you just have to think it through and take care of everything else. These motors can be made VERY reliable with lots of power.

Tim, you can shim the shafts too. We've yet to have one of those break. I just had mine shimmed and shot peened :)
