3.99 gears

I had 3.99 gears put in the tranny while it was out to have the TC and tranny rebuilt. I got a chip from FordChip which was flashed for the gear change but have not put it in. So far with about 50 miles of driving there are no issues from the PCM about the gear change.

The OEM gears are 3.79. Parts are under $100.

With my short tires it gives me a final drive ratio of ~4.28 vs the 3.77 OEM. It makes it a bit faster....

gas mileage effect?

i know the 4.10 equipped rangers got less mileage than the 3.73 equipped ones.

That depends on how fast you drive. If gas mileage is a concern you can go the other way too.......

Actually with my shorter tires the final drive is 4.43.
