Is it true that the 3.2 oil pump flows better than the 3.0 pump?

Since I am in the process of doing a 3.2 swap in an '89, I might just keep the 3.2 oil pump on.

Anybody on here have a 3.2 w/ a 3.0 oil pump w/o any problems?

Yes, the 3.2 pump moves a bit more oil. The downside is that it doesn't completely clear the piece of the MTX plastic timing cover that touches it. If you don't mind reworking that cover a bit it's a more desirable pump.

yes the 3.2 internals are bigger, and I know guys with a 3.0L pump on a 3.2, but if you're doing all the work why not put the higher flowing pump on?

I wouldn't have asked if I found it in a search. Maybe I didn't search hard enough or maybe I typed the wrong words. WHO KNOWS

Thank you. While using the 3.0 timing setup you have to use the 3.0 covers correct?

Thank you too. I'll use the 3.2 pump then, since the driver of this car will not be driving it easy.

I've been running the 3.2 oil pump on my 3.2 mtx for awhile with no issues. I have the front end apart for some maintenance and decided to fabricate a cover from aluminum sheet that I had lying around. I riveted the top part of the cover to the side of the middle timing cover. However, I suspect that it's going to be a royal pain to line up and install properly with the engine in the car so I'm just going to install my covers without the plate.

The car is no longer my daily driver so I don't care too much.

Heres what I did to cover the hole that the 3.2L pump leaves on the 3.0L setup. I just used some sheet metal and rtv to seal it to the block, so far so good;)

Oh ok, the 3.2 pump doesn't have that extra fin on the left side that the 3.0 does. Thanks for all the help guys.

One last question: I'm sure someone has tried this or thought of it before but is it possible to put the guts of a 3.2 pump in a 3.0 casing?

I don't believe so - the gear inside of the 3.2 oil pump is thicker.

After looking at the pic above, I may try to fabricate another shield and screw it into place while the covers are on. If it doesn't work...oh well. :)
