on my 92 sho i have quife, 235/40/18 tires, new rear struts and tight suspension and still can get no good traction of the line, i tried leting the clutch go in second gear at about 4500rpms, and had exelent start of the line and the car didnt stall at all, i have brand new stock clutch and axles, and i was wondering what could i damage if i keep taking of in second gear, and did anyone else try this. i was wondering if i upgrade my stock clutch with a racing one and lightweight flywheel i would be getting awsome 6o' foot times and 0-60 should be in low fives since i wouldnt have to shift untill 70mph, let me know what you all think, i hope you understand what iam trying to say.

Sounds like a good way to limit torque for starts in snow and ice. Also a great way to shorten clutch life.

At what rpm are you dropping the clutch to get so much tire spin in first gear? Anything more than 3,000 rpm and you are definitely going to get the tires spinning for a while.

i took my car to the race track and i raced it five times and my best time was 14.8 at 95 mph. my rpm lounches ar at about 2500rpms and yes the car jumps very nicely, but wheen i tried this second gear method the jump of the line is awsome, and yes i know that it will shotrten the clutch life(smart a..)thats why i said, if i used tha racing clutch and lightweight flywheel( to help prevent the stalling and help it rev up quicker since the 2nd gear is prety tall) it will help alot. and my main concern is the transmission? im wondering what could i damage inside of it, i got quife(and god i love it, especialy when you go through seven tranny rebuilds yes 7 you heard right, i average about 3-4 burnouts a week hehehe), i herd that the gears are pretty strong inside so if this is only going to damage my clutch or brake the axle thats not that big of a deal but tranny explosions that would be to much for me, i have been through way to many of them. as soon as the race track opens again il go and se if this method helps my 1/4 mile times.

Wow I thought Quaifes got rid of wheelspin. Well there is a poor mans method, subframe connectors. That might help you a bit. They make it almost impossible for me to chirp second, used to do it all the time. To me that means more traction.

bensho92, if you have a quaife and arent worried about breaking your tranny run drag radials on the street, and dont get a heavier flywheel if you're gonna use the second gear thing because a lighter flywheel will make your car stall easier and finally why brag about going through 7 trannies? i'd say u need to learn to drive a manual trans. car before you break your SHO again

1st gear is not so low that you can skip it all together.Your not spinning the tires because the gearing is so tall that you`re not getting enough torque to break the tires loose. That is not the solution, you just need to learn to drive better.

"Wow I thought Quaifes got rid of wheelspin"

Nope. Just means you spin 2 tires evenly instead of 1. It's performance at the strip is minimal, but it can take more punishment than the stocker, which is nice.

Just because you have wide tires doesn't mean a thing as far as wheel spin. Typically a tire that is good in the corners isn't the best for straight-line use, and vice versa. Dunlop SP8000's are pretty sticky tires for the street, and open track, but they are horrible for strip duty. Real low profile street tires usually aren't the best tires to get to hook up. You don't have any sidewall working for you.

A set of 225/50 Nitto drag radials will solve your wheelspin problems.

Just don`t try to run the drag radials on the street full time. They are only good for a few hundred miles because the compound is so soft.

Launching these cars is an art. Mark is 100% right about the sidewals. Themore sidewall the more traction off the line. As far as what Rpm to use, My best launches have also been around 2800 (or in that vicinity). Don't just side-stup the clutch either, you need to feather it slightly as you let it out as you feel the wheels start to spin. Maximum grip on starts is made with ~10% wheel spin.

there are five gears for a reason. use them all. the best launches for the car and the times have been in the just under 3000rpm range. just try launching the car many time. practice and practice until you get it. it took me a couple of times to perfect my launch but after that i outlaunched mustangs and talon tsis.....

Keep in mind that the racing clutch and lightened flywheel won't make it last any longer, as a matter of fact you will wear your cluch faster with this setup. Doing 2nd gear starts dropping the clutch like that can't be good for just about anything in the front end of the car.

I don't get it, what a **** are most of you talking about. I know how to drive a manual smart a...look at my time. that's not my point, I am just saying by starting of in 2nd gear you get much better start of the line . which part of this don't you understand, and I have better 1/4 times with my stock car then most of you smart a.... with y pipe and all the other b.s. on your shos, i run a 14.8 before i did anything to my car it was all stock, hello doesnt this tell you something, i can drive, read all the reply before you say something stupid. and reason i went through seven rebuilds is because of all the burnouts that i did for fun of it,its not my shifting or not knowing how to drive manual(see once again read before you say something) and i rebuild transimisions my self ,so trust me ,for me it was worth all the work , until i got my self a quife.so please read all the massage before replying, its not that hard,(especialy the shonuff93) and also i was wondering shonuf93 where in the **** did you hear me mention getting heavier flywheel, because i specificaly said lightweight flywheel and racing clutch.

You asked a question, and got several good replies. You got basically the same answer from 8 diffreent people,so take a hint.If you`re having trouble getting traction, dump the 40 series tires.
