Ive a 89 3.0 SHO engine that has been sitting around for at least a year. When I bought it from the original owner I was told there were no problems, it came out of his totaled sho. When I took off the valve covers I noticed the oil had turned into a dark sludge. How should I go about starting this engine up safely. Is there a way of priming the oil system? Once running what should I use to clean the sludge out of th engine without tearing down the block?

Before you start it you could remove all the plugs unplug the dis module also. Then crank the engine until the oil light goes out. Then reinstall the plugs and plug in the DIS module. To clean that sludge you can just use a good quality oil and change it regularly. There are some cleaners out there but I haven't seen the need for them myself and have no experience with them.
