This may be a good thing for the Gen 3 section :) I'm not aware of any other way to check the codes on an OBDII equipped car besides a scanner. Go to your local chain parts store and they can do it for you free of charge.

I already tried and they won't scan for an ABS code. I have a decent OBD 2 scanner but it does everything but ABS.

Does the ABS light flash when you first start the car? If there are codes it will flash a 2 digit code 7 times before going steady on IIRC.

Tha problem is the light won't come on at all. Even when you turn the ignition on and I already checked the bulb. The light was on at one point and then I fixed two fuses and the light went out and won't come on at all. Even when I pull the fuses I replaced the light still stays out.

The car stops perfectly but I have no ABS. I normally wouldn't care but in Mass if your car is equiped with ABS and it doesn't work they give you a rejection sticker. I suppose I'll have to pay yet again and have it scanned.

If the light doesn't come on, how will they know if it's working or not? Don't they just do a visual inspection, check lights, tires, brake pads, and maybe emissions?

In Mass. they turn the ignition on and make sure everything lights up. They know the car has ABS and if the light won't come they will know it's not working or they will think I pulled the bulb.

The fuse was blown and when I replaced it the ABS light went out and now the light doesn't come on at all even when you turn the ignition on.

There is also a dedicated ground wire that runs from the pump body to the unibody frame. It's a short 6" wire or so and it may be broken.

If that is not it then I would guess a dead ABS controller. One of the hardest thing to change out too. :(

You can use any year ABS but avoid the '98s as they have dead speedo issues.

I would take the connector off first and confirm that power is getting to the ABS controller and that there is no corrosion.

There is power going to the control module but I never checked the ground to the body I should have while I had everything out but I did plug another ABS control module to my car from a 96 SHO and I got the same reults.

Got a Service Manual?

If so, check the Brakes Section for the troubleshooting tests, and pin-out testing - they'll help isolate whether the problem is in the harness or not.

I did that and after all the test it told me to replace the ABS control module and since I'm not 100% sure thats the problem I didn't want to replace it so plugged an ABS control module from a 96 SHO into my car but I had the same problem but I have a feeling an ABS control module from a 96 won't work for a 98. It's a good amount of work to replace these things and I hear they are pretty reliable I don't even know if a scanner will pull a code it seems that there is no communication from the ABS module. I was hoping someone had a similar problem. By the way is there any way to move this to the G3 section?

Does the cruise control work? Does the ABS engage when you slam on the brakes?

Assuming it does then the ABS is sending out speed info, same for the speedometer too.

So I would be looking at the circuit that is controlling the ABS indicator. Pin 22.
