17' driver alert system

So, i traded my 15' SHO on a 17' SHO. It's loaded with all the driver alert crap. Here's my question... Is there a way to turn off the red light dash alert and audible alert when you are too close to another vehicle? It's actually a huge distraction. I tried turning off everything through the menus, yet it prevails.

Any help is appreciated.

I just read the manual and no where, does it say it can be deactivated. Its says you can reduce the frequency, which I set mine to the lowest setting. Apparently I drive very aggressive lol.

I don't know if you can turn it off, but I know on my 2013 that you can adjust the sensitivity.

According to my 2018 manual, it can be made less sensitive by using the information display control. My car has it and it's only gone off once.

Mine has the blind spot LEDS in the mirrors, too. The alert that I believe is being discussed is a string of red LEDs on the dash by the base of the windshield. If the car believes you are approaching traffic, etc too quickly...it flashes the LEDs and puts on an alert tone. I can see how it could be helpful.

I should add that it comes with the Driver Assist Package. So if you have a PP car...it shouldn't have the forward alert warning.

At a minimum, some good ol' black electrical tape will cure the flashy red lights! Now if I can find the speaker for the alert...

The alert is through the audio system. If the audio fails the cluster will take over.

I don't know how to completey disable the system. It may not be something you can do short of changing programmng or disabling your active cruise control by removing power from the module.

I guess you missed where I stated I "read the manual". You cannot disable it from any menu per the manual. Maybe you have something constructive to add to the thread?

I have no idea why you would want to turn it off. I personally am very annoyed by people who come screaming up behind me and slam on their brakes at the last instant, so I would vote for a more steady driving style... but that's just me.

I can understand your concern. That's not "my driving style". What sets it of is passing in traffic. It's literally the most annoying POS I've ever experienced. But thanks for assisting me in my endeavor to turn it off.

I wonder if something is out of whack. Mine has only activated a couple of times. If a car ahead is turning to the right and I am approaching him at a pretty quick pace, it has gone off until he completes the turn. In that case, the system can't see what I see - that he is turning and he will be out of the way before I get to him. I think it is a nice feature. If a driver is distracted for some reason, it could prevent an accident. My insurance rates went down when I traded my 2010 MKS for a 2017 Continental because of all the safety tech.

Hyperspd7 - sounds like it isn't looking in the right direction. Does this happen all the time and can you easily reproduce it? If so, may be a bad sensor.

My adaptive cruise brakes if beside traffic and a curve is approaching making it seem as if the cars are in front of me, especially if I haven't started turning the wheel yet. There are two places in all of I81 that this happens with my car.

The only time the collision avoidance activates is when I am driving agressively or someone slams the brakes ahead. I keep mine on the weakest setting, but ramp up that setting when someone else is driving.

It happens quite often, yes. I'm going to attribute it to my driving. The system is set on low and it still goes off several times a day. I may have the shop look at it during the first service. I already need them to look at the trunk lid. It's a bit crooked and cannot be adjusted with the feet. It's more the lid sits flush on top but sticks out on one side near the bottom. May be bent. Another item... my windshield has a decent amount of distortion. My 15' did not have this problem. It's right where I look through the glass, so it's annoying as f88k.

Mine rarely ever does it and I do tend to drive aggressively. It works off the radar system in the car so if it isn't aimed correctly it could cause issues. After a recent issue with a very large deer at a high rate of speed my radar system went off line and it warned that the collision detection system was also unavailable. Might have Ford check the alignment and discuss it with the service department.
