I just did the rod bearings in the engine im building.

I have had this torque wrench forever, and i remember, i used to use it as a breaker bar.. (lol woops)

So part of me wants to go out and buy a new torque wrench and redo the rod bearings as they are only ~$50ish.

my question is, can you RE USE freshly torqued rod bearings? Or should i just buy a new set?

The bearings will be fine - I'd be concerned about the rod bolts though - if they were overtorqued, there is a good chance that they will fail. If they just weren't torqued enough, then there's no harm for certain after you torque them properly.

This is a good example of why I have more than 1 torque wrench. I use 1 for engine assembly's, and the other for everything else.

The bearings will be fine, but If you over torqued the rod bolts they may have stretched. That's bad.

Well. What kind of torque wrench is it?

The double-beam simple wrenches trade accuracy for durability, it should still be the same accuracy as when you got it

if it's a clicker... What the **** are you using a torque wrench as a breaker bar for anyway?

That's one expensive-ass breaker bar. IMHO if you honestly think it's OK to use a torque wrench as a breaker bar, then try to use it as a torque wrench again, then perhaps you should be paying people to work on your cars for you, because you obviously haven't grasped the concept of "proper maintenance" yet.

LOL, the exact reason why I did not manage to get my crank pulley off - didn't want to use my torque wrench, and couldn't find a suitable breaker bar for combining with the starter bump method.

Gotta respect the tools or they won't respect you. **** I keep the torque wrench in the orig case so I don't randomly use it.

How far are you from Harbor Freight ?

You can get the following breaker bar at Harbor Freight, for only $12.99 and tax.

1/2" Drive, 25" Breaker Bar

I've broken several 1/2" drive impact sockets with it, so it's long enough and strong enough to handle the starter-bump "technique".
