Won't rev past 3800 RPM

Since SHO #1 is dead, I was getting #4 ready for an autocross and it would not rev past about 3800 RPM. It is a 94 ATX with 59K on it. I just bought it a few months ago and it ran fine on the way home. Been sitting in the yard. Now it falls flat and starves for fuel the way it sounds. I did have the air filter off and can't find any wires unplugged, other than the cruise, which was unplugged before.

Any hints?

Clean your MAF

Well it wont go past 4k in neutral for the ATX.

If this is while driving, check to see if your secondaries are opening. If they are not then thats your problem.

Also, your horn will not work if the cruise control module is unplugged. Just FYI.

Secondary flaps were moving I think that is where they are. It was not revving even driving around the yard.

I will cean the MAF.

I have driven SHO # 1 for 11 years now, guess it is time to start working on it other than maint.

Don't know why I didn't mention this before, but pull your codes. Is your CEL on?

you know, at first, I thought, huh? how the ****? But now that I think about it, you're right.

If the MLP thinks the car is in neutral, then it won't let the engine rev past ~4K no matter what gear the car's actually in... try replacing it. It's pretty easy, though you have to remove the air hose going to the TB, and removing the cruise control makes it a lot easier. 1 13mm, 2 8mm bolts hold it in.

i had a problem like this and I was getting a code for spout connector...

turned out it was a bad computer... coulda been a wiring or DIS problem as well....

another thing to think about

whats it feel like when u get to 3800rpm? is it like a rev limmiter or does it just kinda stop going up in RPM's like runing into a soft or a hard wall is my basic question

It sounds like it is gasping for air. The revs will go up and down in a narrow range. I have to work this week 24/7 unless it rains. I may not get to work on it for a while. I will look into all hints. THANKS!

Sounds alot like what happens when you bounce it off the rev limiter in neutral in an atx. Id look into the car thinkin its in neutral.

I had to move SHO #4 and it spun gravel from driveway to driveway right up to 7000 rpm.

It leads me to think the sender for neutral/park is acting up. Will have to wait for a rainy day.....
