96 upgrade cars and parts list

got the setup finally done last night and all i can say is this new setup will take some gettin use to.........much much much better stopping not to mention they fill up ALOT more of the space inside the rim

Compare for yourself. The only difference is the extra nub.







As far as bolts go, if you pull brackets off an '01+ leave the bolts, they're too long!!!

And, with this upgrade. what upgrade is affective in the rear?

Is it me, or does the brake dust make the Mark VIII brackets look a little "beefier" in the second and third images?

for the cobras u HAVE to go to atleast 17's ive also heard rumors of some 17's not workin............

as far as the 96 upgrade from what ive read most dont mess with the rear.....except for looks, suppose to mess with ur brakin balance...............i will say tho it would look alot better if u have open rims to do the upgrade in the rear

Some have been able to run Cobra/Mach I calipers under slicers, and some have not been able with 17's. You can definitely run Cobras under slicers, if you restrict yourself to 10.9" rotors

10.9's IMHO seems like a waste?????? or is that just me.......96 gives u what 11.6 i believe it is????

or is there somthin im not lookin at???????.........just a note i havnt really done very much research into the cobra upgrade....yet

You can use the Cobra calipers on the 11.6" (not 10.9") rotors by cutting down the brackets. The Cobra calipers are aluminum 2 piston units.

You can use the Mustang GT PBR dual-piston calipers on 10.9s and one forum member from Knoxville has done this on a SHO. Can the Cobra/Mach I calipers be used on the GT caliper bracket - I don't know. I think he posted that the PBR/10.9 combo was comparable to the 11.6 upgrade, but this is from memory.

I did a search about the Mustang PBR calipers being compatible with the 11.6 rotors and what I found was they are not, although I would love if they were. I happen to have a set of PBR calipers and mounting brackets sitting in the garage.

as for the bolts, they are the same front and rear, so just get some more rear bolts to use on the front, or cut the ones that are too long

**********make sure you get the 4 caliper bracket mounting bolts (mount the caliper bracket to the spindle) if u have a 89-93!!!!!!!!!!*************
im unsure what cars have the right bolts i called the local FORD dealer and they told me the bolts were discontinued........i ended up telling a salvage yard i needed em from a 94+ TAURUS/SABLE or 95+ CONTINENTAL, so im not sure what ones i got...but they were to long so i ground them down a bit, and used a crush washer

old post says "12x1.75x35, grade 10.9 with integrated washer" is what is needed

DON'T USE ANY CRUSH WASHERS ON THE BRACKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

an "integral washer" is a bolt with a wide flat base on the head

I've also recently seen the Mark VIII-type brackets on 1996-97 Cougars and one Thunderbird.

The rotors in each case measured 11-19/32s (ie. 11.6").

The long bolts are form the Continental thats where I got mine from and they were way to long
