That’s kinda funny, I did the exact same thing. But then soon after sold her old car I took over for another SHO. Unfortunately, she’s not in love with the Explorer. She thinks it’s too big. Which it kind of is, definitely designed for much larger people. Her arms don’t reach either armrest.
I mean with all due respect that's why you dont buy a huge suv if you dont need a huge suv lol. I think people these days want suv because they think they are "supposed" to want one lol. Hive mind. But yeah id rather have the SHO myself its huge enough for me and im 6 foot 3 275 lbs

My wife's Explorer is in the shop from getting hit by a teenager. They gave her an Expedition Max as the rental. It won't even fit in the garage but she absolutely loves it. Stupid Enterprise. I'm not buying another SUV any time soon. I've got a kid about to turn 15 and another 18 months behind her. I'm broke for at least the next 3 to 8 years .

Started on the new spark plugs and coils earlier. The rear 3 were mostly slightly annoying. I had to break the ones on the front free with a bar but fine after. That middle front though, I had to soak about a half inch of oil out of it, then had to use a breaker the entire way out. It looks a previous owner screwed up the threads on the plug before they put it in the car. Used the endoscope and saw it looked like it still had threads toward the bottom, called my friend and we decided to just send it, he can take care of it when the motor's out for the torque converter. Looks like I'll be doing the front valve cover gaskets and plug tubes tomorrow when i can get the parts and a damn T45 for the hpfp...

Replaced all the gaskets and O-rings on the front valve cover and added some parts my friend kept when he sold his 2014. Upr catch can with the front side blocked off(idk, he ripped the junction hose and gave up on it I guess), EPP noisemaker delete with Tial BOV(just covering the hole for now). I still need to do the thermostat and decide if I want to do the rest of the hot pipes with that BOV or keep my stocks and pull the tial and block off the holeIMG 20260109 123842656 HDR2

Actually, we did. Needed something capable of pulling our camper, that wasn’t a truck.

I swear this car yearns for the crusher. Fixed my induction issues, back to driving with the same old whirling noise from the torque converter and questionable oil pressure.....then the APIM dies on the test drive. An hour commute each way listening to the torque converter cry for help is not happening. Tried all the tricks, she's toast, now either find a sync 2 apim in the junk yard or bite the bullet and do the sync 3 upgrade. By the time I get around to it she'll probably need a battery....if you give a mouse a cookie, it'll ask for a glass of milk. If you buy an SHO it'll bankrupt you

Sometimes very true. Keeps me from getting one of these newish models. So much to go wrong.
I was ready to sell it and invest in my 05 F150 or go buy an old town car. so tired of the newer stuff, Ive had a 77 F250 project on ice because funds go everywhere else but honestly it needs like $300 to run and drive again and that includes the entire ignition and fuel system. something to be said about that, but my wife talked me into keeping the SHO and "stop throwing a temper tantrum" so I'm riding it out. Just tired of watching it sit.

Funny, this week I've been looking at Panther platform sedans myself as a second vehicle.
Not sure it qualifies but my ‘97 towncar was hands down the best all around vehicle I’ve ever owned. And black with American racing torque 2’s made people think it was a marauder. I put 100k miles on it and did zero past oil, tires and brakes. Really miss it.

Hahaha, I was trying to find a picture of it but realized it was pre cell phone. Though it did have a “car phone” in the center armrest.

I had an 06 Interceptor and it was mechanically the best car I've owned. Only sold it to get a truck, I figured if I ever went back to the panther platform I'd spoil myself and get a close to end of production town car, handful of creature comforts with diehard parts where it counts and they get about the same fuel mileage as our SHOs. Being in FL there's no shortage of town cars, basically a casket on wheels.

Yeah, not as many up where I am and I mostly don't want anything from the rust belt. So I have to spend more or travel and get one.

Well I scored two APIMs at the local salvage yard for $130 for both with screens. My screen was scratched to **** so good score. My research suggested some reprogramming may be required if taken from a different vehicle so I anticipated my car all of a sudden gaining rear climate controls. What I didn't anticipate was trying 2 different APIMs with no difference in correcting my problem.

Gather round children its lesson time. Google is free and AI is neat, but neither are always accurate so if you need clarification, ask a grown up. My initial analysis suggested the APIM as its the source of radio malfunctions. While trying to find a replacement, I kept seeing ACM and APIM thrown around almost as if it was an interchangeable term......

ITS NOT

This forum with a quick search of my symptoms pulled up a thread that died a bit over a year ago explaining the difference and describing my issues to a T. My ACM is shot, not the APIM.

SO, I got me a scratch free screen for $130, broke the bezel attached to the Taurus only sony system that's impossible to find locally, and discovered the APIM is interchangeable with programming but the ACM must come from a sony system in a taurus or be repaired.

Let's talk MONEY. I got 2 APIMs with screens for less than one APIM on ebay for $130. The sync 3 upgrade is $300-$600, the repair service for the ACM is about $200. And the Sony bezel is about $200 used. By my math im almost to a sync 3 upgrade by the time I get back to sync 2, cant do the sync 3 upgrade without the 2 parts I need to make the radio work again.

Enter plan B. $200 12" android screen. Comes with the bezel, receiver, screen, etc. Provides more functions BUT I've had spotty luck with the China android screens.

Im torn, go back to sync 2, wait for it to break again, then do the sync 3 upgrade. Or put the oem stuff on ice and just slap a Chinese band aid on it for half the cost that I might ultimately like better.

Thoughts? Experiences? Donations? Therapist recommendations?

You can get a NavTool for $400 which hijacks your OEM stereo and adds Android / Apple Auto. I did it a few months ago on my old Sync 1 stereo.

Note - I do have issues with voice commands but it's not the issue of the NavTool. Apple voice commands work fine and I have been able to get Android voice commands to work by downgrading to an older Android Auto app on my phone. The problem is that Android forces me to update to the newest version the next time I use it. It's a pretty well known issue with Android specifically. It could be related to my phone as well. I haven't tested it with another Android phone.50eca36134a9d0bf78c6f37537b12fe748f29052ca9db89cff2d7b70e624427c

Entertainment section of screen was not allowing fm/am tuning, Bluetooth would connect but no sound. Cd would play no sound. Voice commands would acknowledge but no voice feedback. According the the thread I read its the acm receiver or the cd player section that's having issues
