I'm looking to replace my pads with either the Powerstop z36 (Severe Duty Truck & Tow) or z37 (Top-cop) pads. I've been trying to find some definitive differences between the two with no luck.

Can anyone suggest which one I should go with? I'm looking for the best stopping power ideally for under $100 for both front and rears.

Thanks!

Z36 are for trucks. I had those on my f-150 and was not impressed. So that leaves 37.

I would recommend Hawk or EBC in general. Save money on rotors and get good pads.

I have Powerstop pads on several of my vehicles and I like them. I don't recall which model they are though.

i believe the z37 are police pads prob only available/listed for the 2013+ interceptor models.

raybestos and bendix police pads should also work well,

all depends on how you drive whether they will be good 4 you or not. the harder you drive, the better off you are with higher performance pads ... i use ebc orangestuff on our edge and they haul, but they are heck on rotors. yellowstuff is probably a good compromise.

carbotech also should have good offerings worth looking at. if they are still in business. things have changed a lot since 2020.

I went with SM105K's pick for rotors, the PowerStop drilled/slotted zinc-coated rotors off Amazon. Can anyone confirm the part number for the Gen4 PP Motorcraft brake pads he recommends?

Does that mean that that the DG1Z 2001 F pads (BRF1475) are non PP?
correct. non pp pads are referenced to non painted brake calipers.

The vehicle options this part fits:
  • Fit Note: Brake Calipers - Black, With Non Painted Brake Calipers, SHO
  • Production Date: From 02/2012

@SHOdded Thanks for the clarification. What’s strange then is that the DG1Z-2001-F pads are actually more expensive than the FU2Z-2V001-H pads. I wonder why that is.

Does anyone have any quantifiable way of measuring how much more stopping power the PP pads have over the non PP? I’m just really curious to see any comparisons.

Not really easy on the search. Maybe Irish Pride can shed some light if his system has compound ingredients.

Here is a previous thread about this topic.

That’s a helpful thread @luigisho but actually it’s left me with more questions than answers.

The OP @6500rpm (if you’re reading this) in that thread said he wanted the “EXACT pad that was on my 13 PP SHO” but that he got the “FU2Z-2V001-H (Motorcraft)” pad which should have been “DG1Z-2001-F.”

So unless I’m totally missing something it sounds to me like DG1Z-2001-F are in fact PP pads which the OP ended up getting at the end of the day.

Sort of comes back to my question on why would non PP pads cost more than PP pads?
