I never thought about the texture being a problem well.... until now. Might could sand off the texture just to the point the coupling covers it.

Mine wasn't coated, it was raw when I purchased it. I had originally plasti-dipped it when I bought it. The plastidip was failing. So after I removed the pipe, I had some extra Herculiner sitting in my garage. In my head the rough texture, with cleaned and hair sprayed couplers should hold better. Hasn't come off yet.

I wish I were keeping my MKS and I would buy a couple performance parts off you so you can focus more on the Lexus. What's the end goal with it?

I am keeping the SHO. My GF and her daughter have basically taken it over, which actually makes me happy because it is being driven.

The Lexus is a 2002 IS 300 with a 2JZGE VVT-i. It is has a GTE rotating assembly, with a Precision 67 mm turbo. It is a 5 speed car with a R154 swap. The more I dig into it, the more I will update. It was built by Swift in Maryland. From what I remember, it ran about 5 years ago. Then it was parked. A couple of years ago the owner went to start it, and it was down two cylinders. He did some work to it, but didn't get to the bottom of it, and really has zero interest in it anymore. It has the stock ECU with a Haltech E11V2 stand alone. I don't know if the Haltech took a dump, or something else. I need to get a laptop with a 9 pin connector to communicate with the Haltech (because old) to see anything. Back in the day the Haltech was pretty much the go to for the turbo swapped Lexus cars.

I will start digging into it. Going to check the wire harness, check compression, and try to get it running. After that, I will probably spend a small fortune to bring it into the modern day stand alone wise. I have been looking at Pro Efi (they also have a complete plug and play harness for the IS 300) to update the stand alone. It has a couple of features that I want. It completely controls the VVT-i, boost control, rolling anti lag, 2 step, ect. End Goal? To have a 500 hp Four Door Supra. LOL.

I will post more pics this weekend. The paint is rough and the car is filthy. However, I really dig how the paint looks, so that really is a plus in my book.

I too, am straying, though I'm planning to keep the SHO. Got rid of the 850 BMW due to space limits, and ordered a 392 Hemi Wrangler. Not as quick, but still a vert with similiar performance to the SHO.
What are the specs for the Lexus?

I posted what I know about the car so far right above your reply. The more I dig into it, the more info I post.

The Lexus is just going to be my fun street toy. They only weigh 3200 lbs so with 450 to 500 hp it should get down. Not going to go too crazy.

End Game: 2020 Mercedes E63S.

Serial to USB adapter. I had to use one on the stand alone system on my 99 Harley until I upgraded. Lets you keep everything on your current laptop and may make it easier if you upgrade instead of having to transfer tunes or data logs.

@SM105K usb serial adapters are known to be finnicky/incompatible with some electronics. I would highly recommend the IOgear guc232a. I've been using it for over a decade for tons of different uses and have yet to have a problem with it.

I second this, I've been using it to console into network equipment for a long time, never had any issues as long as you get your settings/baud rate setup correctly.

I just ordered one. Thank you for the heads up guys. If I can get it to talk to the Haltech then maybe I can figure out what is going on and get it running.

However, there are so many components with the spliced wire harness, Haltech E11v2, Haltech RA10, and the Haltech Triple Channel Igniter, Stand Alone Wideband, ect....

That 392 Hemi Wrangler sounds like it will be awesome. Let me know how that goes.

Lexus update: I got it home. First things first...I washed it. Now it looks like a "clean" paint failing car. Lol. Pics are before the wash....Car really doesn't look any different. 20211113 09154120211113 09155220211113 091604

Then I gave the engine compartment a good scrubbing. I need to do it again, but it looks alot better.

After:

Just used my garden hose sprayer, Purple Power diluted 4 to 1, a wheel brush, and some towels.

Threw the front bumper on for good measure.

Going through the interior I found this car show announcement.

Hahaha. Bliss Showclub.....

I completely detailed the interior and it is in really good shape. I didn't take pictures during the process, but I cleaned and vacuumed everything. Then I cleaned the leather seats and started the process of re-moisturizing and re-conditioning the leather. I used Chemical Brothers Leather Serum. I checked the leather last night, and it was dry again. I am guessing it will take four to five leather treatments to get the leather happy.

Today, I have been reading the Haltech E11V2 manual. I want to be as familiar with this standalone and all of its components that I can be. I am glad Haltech archived everything and is really easy to download and print everything that I need. So I am diving into that over the next couple of days.

I also purchased a refurbised Lenovo ThinkPad T410S off ebay. The seller told me he would be able to load a 32bit Windows Operating System into it as well. The Halwin Software that communicates with the computer will not load onto a 64bit WOS. So with the IOgear guc232a and this computer, hopefully I will be able to start figuring out why she doesn't run.

I am re-thinking my approach to this. This car is already set up for Haltech and it already worked great before. I just want to get it back to that level. This isn't going to be a racecar. This is going to be fun street car that I can go and enjoy.

Looking at the turbo, vvt-i, and rubber timing belt. Any issues with jumping time when it gets pushed high?

Looking at all the posts and my knowledge about 2J's, I haven't seen any jumping timing. VVTi isn't being supported by the Haltech at this time either. Car made 440 hp and 415 tq which is just starting to the stretch the 2J's legs.

Update on the Lexus. I got it a started and running. Sure enough there is a miss. Actually there is two misses. Both cylinder 3 & 4 are missing. However, they are fired by the same coil. If you know anything about waste spark, then you might understand what it happening. I know the car has 140k miles, and I am pretty sure the coils are the originals. So I bought new coils, new plugs, an new wires. I installed them and yep...still missing.

The wiring in the Lexus isn't the best. I pulled and de-loomed the coil wires. Looking to see if anything is broken or out of place. Didn't find anything. However, there is a Haltech Triple Channel Ignitor (JDM thing) that may have failed. So I bought a replacement and when it arrives, I will install and see what happens.

I hope so, if not further down the rabbit hole I will go. I am excited to see where it ends. This does give me the opportunity to fix and tiddy up some wiring. Also, I am learning all about the Haltech ECU as well. Pretty state of the art circa 2008ish. Lol.
