Hey yall,

I have a 2016 Taurus SHO and am trying to do a RGB led headlight upgrade for aesthetics.

However, I have a D3S ballast and there obviously aren't any RGBs for xenon types, I figured if I can do a D3S to HB3 Conversion I can successfully install the RGB LED bulbs I want on my car.

Does anyone have any experience tips or links for how I can get this set up to work. I haven't had much luck looking on my own.

These are the type of bulbs I found for my car of CARID however they are only for HB3

This will probably be a custom setup. You will need an adapter harness to go from the D3S ballast to the HB3/9005 bulb. You could cut the wires and terminate them with the correct connector. There will be many problems though. A low grade D3S bulb generates ~3700 lumens. A high grade bulb makes ~5600 lumens. That is PER bulb. The kit you linked generates 3000 lumens (or 1500 lumens per bulb). In addition, the HB3 bulb (or 9005) is a high beam bulb. The D3S is a high/low bulb with a shutter system. In addition, the ballast connects to the back of the headlight and uses a different retention system than a HB3/9005 bulb. The easiest way to overcome this would be to use a FPIS or low model Taurus headlight that did not come with HID bulbs. These housing use a 9012 bulb and may require trimming tabs on the bulb but a lot less work than a D3S to 9005. Most are adapting a 9012 bulb into a 9005 housing so you may need to play around and reverse engineer this process. Overall, it is a LOT of work with a very big expense to lose light. I would suggest using something like a RGB halo. This may be best professionally installed if you are not comfortable with opening headlamp assemblies.

Thanks for the heads up, I would like to find a adapter harness, but as you said there are a ton of technical issue that would come with that, I would like to get some used halogen headlights from a junkyard but even scrap yards wanna sell them $500+ per headlight :(. Either way, I'll search around and see if there are some options to convert them to and RGB set up with high lumen and H/L beam function.

Not looking to start a debate here and derailing from topic a bit the 2010 came with 9005's and high/low beams are done with a shutter system. These also work as DRL's at lower voltage and I think that is why Canadian first SHO's didn't have HID's.
Mine had aftermarket LED's when I bought it, I didn't like the light pattern with this housing plus the DRL fuse had been removed as they wouldn't work with low voltage. I ended replacing the LED's with 9005 (spec for the 2010) but later replaced them with 9011's as I think the 9005's $uc%.

Actually all the Canadian SHO's didn't come with HID. It's a shame because the halogen housings are awful. Really my biggest gripe with this car.
