Hi, my interest in this forum is because of the SHO V8. I’ll be hanging around looking to get info and learn if this is the right engine for the project I’m contemplating. The project is the car in my avatar, Alfa Romeo Type 33 1967. Mid engine 2litre V8 powered, high revving and weighing 700 kg. I’ve considered several engines from V6 Alfa’s to the RX8 rotary, a Honda K20 and all the way to the latest
GM v6s. All of them have merit and none of them are right. If you’re curious why I’m thinking the SHO V8 might work then check out Alfa Type 33 startup and etc. and you’ll of course already know how the little Ford engine sounds. Mechanically it’s in the same league as the original Alfa mill and the intake is at the back of the engine, its light, that’s really important and it’s a gorgeous package that would be at home in the chassis. Availability seems to be iffy though and I’ve read about the camshaft flaw so those points I’m going to want answered before making the call. Thanks.

If you decide to go with a 3.4 I have two down here in Pittsburgh, one
with welded cams (99%sure) and 92K on it. $350 picked up here.

The sound of the small v8 is excellent. Once the cam issue is addressed it is a fairly reliable motor. I had a v8 SHO with around 200k miles on the odo and the only reason I got rid of it was the transmission was starting to go. The motor had plenty of life left in it.
Do you have a hp requirement and transmission selected?

Yes, I’m looking at the 987 Porsche 5 speed box. I sold my Boxster last year and never got tired of shifting. It’s 3.86 final and a perfect match for the 3.4-V8. In fact since my first post here I’ve looked at all the numbers and getting excited with what can be a great match of motor and chassis. Still much to be done in the planning dept, but establishing the engine is high on the priority list. This will be an amazing build, a Tipo 33 with a high revving V8 just like the original and coming in at 1600 lb wet.

1600lb that sounds like fun. Keep us up to date as things go along. Always interest in unique projects around here. Oh yeah, and once you get the motor can you get measurements for the next person? It's always good to have accurate archived material to point people to.
