Hi everyone, I'm an early retiree from the US. Lifelong greasemonkey and auto enthusiast. I grew up in a die-hard Ford family. I've owned a number of Mustangs. Rangers etc. over the years. I've had many modded rides from turbo Beetles with Porsche engines and drivetrains to AMGs. I owned a 90 LX Foxbody for many years with a full forged build, Trick Flow top end kit and all the usual bolt-ons with 3:55s etc. etc. Now my daily is an Alfa Romeo (my unicorn). I'm looking for my next project and would love to get back into a Ford. I recently found a 2015 SHO, super clean and well kept. It has 110,000 miles on the clock, so if I buy it I will be immediately doing some preventive maintenance mods. The great thing is that there are currently no Taurus SHOs registered in Italy, so if I buy it and import it, I will have the only one. I found one in the Czech Republic owned by a guy who grew up in the family oil business. When he took on a management role, he ordered the SHO from the states and paid all the duties etc. It was his reward to himself for making it to that point in his career. He's selling it to buy something more exotic (poor guy).
I've done a lot of research on the problems that come with this model SHO. I know about the PTU issues etc. I will be digging through the forums looking for information about upgrading the hoses, PTU and PTU cooling (has anyone found a way to increase the capacity of the PTU fluid?) and such as that. When I had my 5.0, I added a stacked plate oil cooler with braided lines to increase the oil capacity as well as a HD aluminum radiator and silicon hoses. I could flog it all day and hit it with laughing gas and it never ran hot, even after several passes on drag radials. I'm looking for practical upgrades to the SHO to increase the longevity and simplify maintenance.
