I've always said, if you own an old car be prepared to fix it yourself. Otherwise pay the repair costs up front and buy a new one...

You can still get the IAC from Rock Auto and a few other places.

The biggest problem with our car is and has been the incorrect listing of the SLO parts as if they were usable on the SHO. Duratec parts are closer, but even some of those are different.

The second biggest problem is it's a crowded engine bay with an orphaned platform that was way smaller run for eninge and parts than even the v6 predecessors.... and it's a SHO. Which means alot of wrench time no matter what incarnation you have. It can get old and demoralizing. Alot of $2000 cars can make you bankrupt.

Would that meen bad crank position sensor? If so where is it located?
Thank you for the help this far.

My primary question is will the tach work while cranking? Sorry if I missed it in all my reading.

With a good crank position sensor signal, yes, you WILL see a tach needle move even when cranking.

Right, unless the gauge is bad (not likely), first suspect is crank sensor. Its not hard to get at. You can pull the driver tire off if you want, but its it the lower front of the timing cover to the right of the crank. There is one bolt holding it in and a two wire connector going to it.

If you run a volt meter against it keep in mind the signal is AC vs DC. Just pass a metal (not aluminium) in front of the magnet to see if it generates a signal.

if a bad crank pos sensor fails to make tach move whats it mean if the tachometer fails? obv could be the circuit but any other ideas? does the glitchy sticking tach casuse any issue for the drivability of the car?

I have no idea. My car wasnt starting. The tach not moving during cranking just helped pinpoint the problem along with some help on here I didnt have to throw a bunch of at it. As a bonus I'm no getting the check engine light so I assume my 411 code is gone too.
