I've been going to the same dealership for years (6 new car purchases and numerous used ones) and have an extremely good relationship with all of the employees there.

With some good chit-chat and the service manager asking me what I intended to do to the SHO (he knows from previous cars and word of mouth, that nothing I have stays 'stock' for long) he hit me with something I didn't expect.

With a few boxes from Livernois awaiting being used, he told me to bring them down, let his top tech install everything and he will honor my extended warranty...within reason.

The within reason part consisted of, "as long as you don't put a rod through the block, I'll simply turn my head".

Do I think this is worth the $4xx.xx in labor? ...absolutely

Given that you have bought 6 new cars and numerous used ones there, it is the least they can do. But isn't a rod through that block the most likely scenario for failure due to tuning? Or are codes being thrown and blown turbos and PTUs more likely?

There's a dealer near me that when I got my '96 t-bird (brand new) from them, they were very performance-mods friendly.

The Ecoboost, especially in the Ford Trucks, Ford tries everything they can to deny warranty if it's been tuned. Hence the "rod through the block" comment from your service guy. What he really means is, Ford will completely investigate any issue that isn't "common" on these engines. PTU's? Somewhat common on non-tuned cars. Turbos blowing seals? Somewhat common on non-tuned cars. Blown headgasket? Haven't heard much about those. You get the idea.

But for $400+, I'd probably do that just to avoid having to remove the tune, 3-bar and cold-air intake every time I needed to bring it in for something ;)

Granted his comment is well based on what happens to a tuned SHO, Livernois had never had a failure to that degree that I'm aware of.

They keep their tunes relatively safe and on the conservative side, which is also why they were more than welcome to have me as a returning customer.

Gimpy, I would let them do it, honestly. When I bought my 2013, traded in my 2012 for it. I went directly to the General Manager. Told him the 2012 was tuned and this one would be and I want all my parts transfered over. This included complete exhaust swap, thermostat, CAI. They did it which surprised me.

That's not exactly true. Everyone has had major catastrophes. Just the name of the game

To my knowledge, Livernois is still batting 1.000 when using their parts and their tunes.

They seem to take a lot of pride in stating that they have yet to have a failure.

Just going by what's been stated by multiple employees and posted a number of times not only here, but also on other forums by a Livernois advocate/member/employee.

False. Every tuner has had shit go wrong. Nothing wrong with that that's what happens when you mod stuff.

Do you have proof of that being false on the sho with livernois?

Yup.....some guy in Illinois just toasted his second motor on LMS. Big deal. These things happen.
LMS does wonderful work, but to think people haven't had issues is sophomoric.

Errr, what...

Even a simple Google search provides Livernois stating they have never had a failure because of their tune.

The sho forum, ecoboost, etc... all from different years all the way back to 10'-11'.

I have personally never came across a single failure due to Livernois...tune or parts from Livernois.

Granted, there MAY be a case of someone who mixed parts/tune from different distributors that included maybe a part or 2 from Livernois, but not from Livernois solely.

^ don't make excuses. Try searching harder. Guy just posted on a non ecoboost page asking for help yesterday.

I kinda understand it's hard to say if a failure has happened because even stock shos will have things break like turbos wastgate valve cover that if ford knew it had a tune they would say no way not warrantied

There was a guy that blew a motor I believe on the LMS dyno, but LMS stated that one of the turbos shredded itself causing the engine to go....

Anyway, it's part of the risk when running any tune... LMS, SSI, unleashed, BCB, AJPTURBO....

LMS just has the most resources to throw at their tunes, plus, they don't datalog so their tunes generally don't push the motors like other tuners...

All and all.. no one 100% safe... if you are not ok with that then don't tune.

Yup, make some more excuses and try the bait and switch.

Bait and switch... excuses...

Ok, I'll try your approach to see if it's ok.

"This one guy, down in Missouri just untoasted his motor by using an 'Aint Skeerd' sticker. Big deal, guy just posted on a Kelloggs cereal forum asking for help in Febtober, 1972"

I mean I'd like to see where exactly I made an excuse or tried a 'bait/switch" when I've posted on the subject at hand.

But of course, an unnamed individual posting on who knows where is a credible source like you stated.
