so I ran out of gas the other night refueled and couldn't start the car for about 20 min then fires up. No spudder. So I drove it home parked it. Got up early drove it to work and it dies as I turn into the parking lot of my job . I push it to a spot. Tried to start it. Just cranks.. So I unhooked the battery to reset the ecu and come back 6 hours later once I got off work hook the terminals up and it fired up first try. So I drove it 60 feet and sit while it idles for about 7to 8 min it just dies and I couldn't start it again. I would think its the cps but I'll leave it out of the question for now. Only codesI was able to get was 10 (air bag light) and 85 idk the definition for it. I'm at 125k and I doubt the car had a 60k since the rear plugs were the Motos and the front were ac delco. I don't think the water pump is leaking on the cps I don't see anything other than oil from the main seal. My sho is stuck at work any help is appreciated. Lol was so close to smoging her now this comes up ;(

85 = canister purge circuit failure. This is not uncommon and is generally resolved by removing the purge valve and venting continuously. IDK if that will pass your visual inspection in CA, but its not a problem in the real world.

Do you have fuel pressure? There is a very good chance that the fuel pump is dead or dieing from the out of fuel situation, as the fuel is required to cool the pump and nearly always running out of fuel will **** the fuel pump within a few months or less.

I can hear the pump every time I turn the key. I checked the shrader valve and fuel had come shooting out. I'm not sure what the pressure is though I'll check the pressure tomorrow, also Sperold pointed out to me that I may have forced my car to suck up some gunk at the bottom of the tank. Witch I'm starting to believe that may be the culprit. It died on me in front of the gas station as soon as the needle was on red. And something I didn't mention. I bought the car a few months back, it had been siting for about 3 years before I bought it. I put about a 1 or 2k on it since. only ran premium!

Well, change out the fuel filter then, given a) how long it was sitting, b) possible gunk sucked out of tank. Hopefully that's all you'll need to do (other than not running on empty :D).

21 = ECT out of self-test range
24 = ACT out of self-test range
11 = all clear

because of the order you got them, 21 and 24 were being experienced at the time you pulled the codes, and there were no stored codes.

as I recall, the ect and act are on the same power circuit from the pcm, so you have either a power issue (lack of power) or a ground issue (lack of ground) on that circuit. The engine will never run right with the act code, so you must find and fix that, but I have never seen that one result in a no-start condition in my experience. I would get a volt meter and check voltages and grounds on that circuit.

well again thank guys. it turned out to be the cam sensor throwing code 14 (erratic pip signal). causing the car to stall once it looses continuity. witch is weird because you almost never hear of a cam sensor stalling a car. funny i got my first clue from watching an English drifter beat his car and it stalled out unable to drive or start back up due to his cam sensor failing.
second clue i was reading up on cam sensors and read somewhere that they produce a hall effect signal same as the cps.
btw i recently changed the cps and no change until i swapped the cam sensor. thought it was leaking oil into the sensor but it was bone dry, same with the cps no leak from the main. PROBLEM SOLVED
