Had mine changed on my 2010 about 2 1/2 years ago for the peeling problem. No problem since.

I had the same exact issue! Had replaced under warranty - good thing the mfr warranty is by miles and not owners. That really would have annoyed me... but I am curious how something like that goes so wrong to begin with.

Ford has been aware of this issue for a bunch of years, but don't give a darn as it is not a safety issue.. Now that these cars are falling out of coverage and we will have to pay over $500 to replace them it will start to get more interesting.....Rich

I wish I could safely and easily strip the remaining peeling chrome off. It is an eyesore.

I actually did a bit of research on this topic, since my warranty'll be up in about 8k. And guess what? We can all rest easy knowing we can easily save $500 for replacements after warranty. I found an awesome chrome spray paint called Killer Chrome. It's... well, a lot less than $500.

I recently purchased some chrome "car wrap" vinyl and have been experimenting with using it on the tail lights. It seems to stick quite well. It only has a 3 year life in the outdoors, but hey, that's longer than many of these tail lights are lasting from the factory.

My biggest challenge so far is finding a razor blade or hobby knife sharp enough to cleanly cut some of the curves.

I used black Plastidip rubberized paint on mine. Took an afternoon where most of the time was spent masking off the areas to be painted. Then 3 coats per the instructions. Been on for 3 years now and gone through 2 NJ winters and multiple automatic car washes with no issues. $10 for the can. I am really bad at do it yourself stuff but I was able to do this and am really happy with the result.

My 13 SHO does not have the chrome trim but my ''11 Limited did. I had them replaced under warranty and the new set started peeling again after a few months. I did the same thing esfoad did with the plastidip and it looked good on my black car, held up really well and was easy once the masking was done. At least Ford has gotten rid of the trim on the newer models!

i just bought a can of black plasti dip tonight. I have a white plat color so i dunno how black or white would look. so i ordered the sel ones. I noticed they had a pearl plastidip and the cap looked just like my paint would that look good?

The pearl white will most likely not match as there are so many variations of white out there. Especially because the plastidip wont have the clear coats so they will reflect light differently. You can try it thou because if you dont like it you can just peel it right off and start over. As far as how it will look with black....black and white are a natural contrast so in my opinion it will look just fine. There are already black accents such as the front fender "vents" which you could also pop off and plastidip, and the lower body molding and rear bumper.

I agree. Black is a natural fit for the end of the lights and there are plenty of black accents on the car to make it fit.

Well that's a bummer....every model years since 2010? They never tried another vendor after the problem came up....recall or SB issued?

I think its the 10-12 only. Ford redesigned the whole taillight for 2013. I don't think it will be recalled because its cosmetic only but they will repair under warranty. I know my 13 SHO doesn't have the trim and I'm thankful for that.

Welcome to the taillight peeling club. Had mine replaced this year under warranty. When these start to peel and I'm sure they will, replacing them with SEL taillights.
