Still can't figure why I don't have power to my 3rd brake light. Probed the connector on the glass and with someone having their foot on the brake my meter read 00.0 I checked #17 15A fuse under the dash (PITA to get to) and it's not blown. My reverse lights, regular tail lights & stop lights all function along with the rear defroster that ALL work. I'm at my wits end with this. My last resort is taking it to a mechanic or the dealer. Wasn't there a TSB for these cars having a reversed polarity on the connector just for the light???

My original post: I remember reading that some Taurus had the wires reversed to the high mount stop light. I don't remember which year(s) were affected. The reversed wires prevented the light from working.

Must be my faulty memory. I cannot find any TSB relating to this.

I found the culprit. The electrical connection was unplugged but one side was broke off the glass. I had to run a direct wire to the light itself for it to work. Grounded it against the pillar beind the trim and tucked the wires away. Mounting the light became a hassle due to a design change that no one told me about. Light is up there but I have to dismount it and move it forward about a half inch for the trim cover to fit against the headliner.
