Here's the plug I was talking about; it has a red/blue wire going to the DIS, red/green going to a bundle of red/green, red going to a red bundle that feeds one side of the injectors, and a black/yellow that's cut. Anybody know what this is?

Not real sure about that plug. The red with blue is what allows the starting voltage from the ignition switch to pass through the Manual Lever Position Switch (which was attached to the top of the atx) when the lever is in Park or Neutral, to reach the starter solenoid. On its way to the starter solenoid, this 12 volts also goes to one of the pins of the DIS module so that the DIS knows when you are cranking.

Also when the Ignition switch is turned to "Start" it sends 12 volts along the red with Green wire to a multitude of things, among them: Pin 1 of the DIS, The cam sensor, the crank sensor, the coil pack, and the condenser attached to the coil pack mount.

The red is always 12 volts in start and run, and feeds a lot of different things that need the 12 volts.

All blacks and black with XX color are usually grounds.

The only thing that I can think of that even comes close to those colors is the MAF sensor with: Black/LG, Red, Light Blue/red, Tan/light Blue.

Can you clean off the wire with some hand cleaner and double check the colors? keeping in mind that the first color is the "mostly" color and the second color is just a stripe.

Hey Tom, I posted on your "How to wire a SHO in something else thread. I was trying to copy a picture from there over to here but my computer wouldnt let me. If you and any of you other wiring gurus could take a peek and give me some advice; it'd be most appreciated.

I had issues with that same connector. Tom was on the right track. Here's what I've found so far:
  • #1 (Rd) is VPWR
  • #2 (BK/Y)
  • #3 (Rd/LG)
  • #4 (Rd/LB)

where LG=Light Green and LB=Light Blue.

Will do some more digging.

OK, wouldn't let me edit the posting. Here's the rest:

  • #1 (Rd) is VPWR
  • #2 (BK/Y) A/C Clutch
  • #3 (Rd/LG) - ties Ignit Swith thru fuze panel and provides 12v to Crank Pos Sensor, Cam Pos Sensor, and others (see Power Dsitribution section of EVTM)
  • #4 (Rd/LB) - ties Ignit Ctrl Module (ICM) #6 to Starting System (Starter/Solenoid)

where LG=Light Green and LB=Light Blue.

Hope this helps.

It does, thanks! I'm getting things narrowed down and I'm wondering what to do about the VSS and TSS turns sensors. Will the computer have to see these for engine functions?

I havent posted for a while but I've still been working on it. I've got it to where it will run but havent done any programming on the EEC yet. I plan on ordering a Tweecer and giving it a go myself. Still need driveshaft, exhaust, plus some other miscellaneous but hopefully she'll be on the road sometime in May.

Thanks! Still lots of bugs to work out; right now it will run but not idle. Not sure if it's just the programming on the EEC or if there are other issues. As soon as I get a driveshaft in it and exhaust on it, I'll work on getting it running right.

Ive got this one; basically I just put two 90 degree elbows on the throttle body and pointed the MAF back at the engine for clearance.

Got it.

As far as it not idling, it could be a Multitude of things. Firing order correct (Plug wires/coil pack). Did clean the paint off of the grounding points on the intake after it was painted? (If you are unsure where those are, I'll show you)...etc.

Yeah; that would be great. You have to ground the intake seperately? I also noticed there is a long delay in throttle response from the time you push on the accelerator to when the engine revs.

Yes,
If you are still running the DIS module on the crossover tube, the crossover tube must be grounded. I moved my DIS away from the crossover, and ground off the flat mounting boss and then polished it of course. My DIS in The Other Woman is mounted to a flat aluminum backplane that is grounded.

I did the same, Tom. I moved the DIS to a steel panel I built behind the seat fpr the EEC, DIS, and relay box to replace the CCRM. I have a ground wire from the battery going to the panel and removed any paint behind the DIS so that it is in contact with the bare metal.

Wow, great minds think alike. Did yours end up looking like a box of spaghetti like mine did? I've already re-wired mine twice, trying to get it to look more neat.

Lol!, yeah, unfortunately it does. I've still got several temporary connections run but I don't want to make them permanent and neaten it up until I know it's running right.
