Pretty sure this mod requires a sound clip!

Ok Mr. Gervais, I suppose you are correct.

Therefore, because I'm sure a few of you may be wondering wth my new exhaust sounds like, I tried my hand at making a couple of sub-par audio/video clips for the community to feast their ears upon.

I can tell you these were captured using a sh!tty camera, combined with my sh!tty video capturing skills.

But hey, wth, don't look a gift horse in the mouth...... I tried my damn best.

Hope it was worth the effort. I realize I really need to invest in some better camera / video equipment, but until then, this is the most you can expect.

Love it. Great job! Hopefully one of our tuner friends will produce these in volume..............
RICK.........................

Any difference in power?

I have an appt for custom dyno time w/ LMS on Thursday, Oct. 25th.

They have a newer tuning device that is able to access an entirely new set of PID's, or parameters that was previously unobtainable with other devices.

They are achieving another 20whp out of the new tuning devices alone.

Additionally, they did contract with a separate vendor who fab'd them up a set of catless downpipes for an EB F150, and they achieved another 11whp and 20wtq just out of that addition alone.

Therefore, after I get my butt out there, I am anticipating picking up an additional 30whp with these new pipes, combined with the new tuner parameters....

So I should be sitting in the realm of around 415 to 425awhp.

Not too shabby out of a 3.5 Twin Turbo'd 6cyl if you ask me :thumb:

Kinda sounds like a rocket or space shuttle taking off :) We need to have that on the ground now that NASA's wimping out on us!

Any idea how much power the transmission can safely channel?

That sounds menacing! Love the turbo spooling. Now, hopefully you don't get pulled over for a loud exhaust. :)

We will never truly know until one breaks, but as right now they are handling over 500Hp pretty well as of now.

What would be the weak link in the drivetrain, I wonder. Would it be as "simple" as developing an HD gearset for the trans (as in the case of the ole MTX)?

My opinion on weak link is the AWD system, especially the rear clutch package that can only handle about 150 lbs torque, before it vectors everything else forward. This means that all of the extra power goes to front wheels. If you can't keep them from spinning much faster than rears, the computer will effectively shut everything down for a split second as a safety measure to keep the system from failing. Unfortunately, when racing in cool/cold conditions, one's tires get harder and at least in my instance, my Conti DW's (summer only tires) wouldn't hook up well, resulting in a quick shut down. Everytime it happened (9 of 12 runs last fall) I lost about .4 sec. However, my best time ever occurred on one of 3 runs this did not happen. My solution was Nitto DR's on the front. Since there are no DR's yet made that are large enough to match up with our stock tire diameter, this required new smaller wheels and tires.

Perhaps A/S or a different brand of Summer Max Performance tire would also resolve this.

How much heavier (and more expensive) would it make the SHO to have a better rear clutch pkg? The advantage of a strong "RWD" should really up the power handling, no? I guess at some point they would have to upgrade the front as well, but is it possible to reverse the logic (with a stronger clutch pkg in place) and have the rear wheels driven first, and the fronts come on later, being user selectable for race conditions? Could this be a PP Level 2?

NOTE: BPD... sorry for hijacking your thread... Catless Pipes look great by the way... but wanted to answer SHOdded's post.

Likely big design change. SHO, Flex, Explorer are essentially FWD designs. Ford had no plans for 500 hp FWD vehicles. COST - $$$$$$$. Some of the German systems likely would work, but one would have to come up with mounting brackets and other unique and expensive parts. And then, other drive train items would likely need upgrading. Inside the engine, you eventually will need forged pistons and rods, as well as DI fuel system upgrades. These items are either very expensive or are literally unavailable. For instance, if you look at the cost of a 5.0 Mustang GT engine vs the BOSS version of the same engine that adds about 25 HP, it is almost double.

If you watch any of these tuned & EB vehicles at launch, you will note front wheels spin first, and much longer than rears, which spin very little. May be more noticeable in Flex due to less front weight bias.

So the big question: is this going to get you Gen 4 guys into the 11's???? :dribble::dribble::dribble:

I would like to believe so, yes!

I have a custom dyno appt scheduled for the end of October over @ LMS.

Most tracks will be closed, or closing shortly thereafter......

But I'll see what I can squeeze in :thumb:

They make 275/40-20 Nitto DR's as well, I'm seriously considering these for my Flex soon depending on how the nitrous affects my traction (I did buy a progressive tps/window switch controller)

Those must be new. When I got mine late last fall they weren't available. Of course, I was also trying to keep the weight down. The 285-40 18's were 30 lbs ea, on my 18 lbs 18" TSW Interlagos. My 17" Hoosier DR's on some Borbet 17" x 9.5" rims for my G8 only weigh 44 lbs, with the Hoosiers at 22 lbs.

DR's will definitely help if the temps are cold and track is slick. Back in JAN, with mid-70's most guys were having real traction issues, and I still got 2 12 second runs.

I would be very careful of the nitrous charge, especially a RPM's below 4,500.

If you haven't tuned your Tranny, that will also help your performance. Both Torrie & Livernois include Tranny tuning in their Tunes. They can also provide you with a stock Engine tune with a special Tranny tune which adjusts the amount of shifting retard, usually at no extra charge. You might e-mail both to see what they can do for you and your Nitrous system.
