One thing I miss about Nebraska is NO emissions...

Took the new SHO in to get it tested since its an outta state car (from MA), and I was WAY high on NOx..

Codes I pulled were for the ECT and thats it. I figured if that went bad it was running RICH not lean...?!?!

I put new plugs in it and it seemed to run A LITTLE better but still fails emissions..

Pull spout and mulligan?

I had that on one car I bought and later found that the timing belt was off 1 or 2 teeth on the rear bank, resulting in high nox.

even with that, pulling the spout connector got it to pass.

+1 for SPOUT and cam timing.

I botched up the timing when installing 3.0 cams in my 3.2 way back in the day. That resulted in high nox. In my case, pulling the SPOUT didn't help.

It will probably pass with the spout pulled... as long as it is good and hot and just coming off a serious drive (maybe 50 miles on highway). You are pretty close to passing as it is now.
I used to nurse my 90 through the test doing that. I finally did the $270.00 Y-pipe from Eastern, and now it will pass without any prep at all, in the middle of the winter.

I failed emissions in my 87 GL and after an estimate for $800 to fix it, the guy behind the counter said to run it real hard down the highway and take it into emissions right after. Passed the second time.

No need for a 60k. You can check cam timing by pulling the top cover off. Takes all of ten minutes.

I don't know the history of the motor. IF its the stock motor, it has 175k on the clock. Even if the 60k's were done on time, its about due for another one anyway. Maybe even rod bearings at that, but oil pressure seems fine and the oil is clean.. for now.

I wanted to do a 3.2 swap. I have 60 days to retest the car or they'll pull my registration. I was hoping to find a motor and have it swapped in come convention time, so I now have something to work for.

It has a ECT sensor code that it likes to throw after I beat on it a little.. If I passed the sniffer part, id fail the CEL portion! :laugh_ti:

Just put two and two together between FB and here, and realized this isn't your white car. lol.

What'd you end up buying?

*edit*

Also, I agree, with 60 days, needing a clutch, and a 60k, building a 3.2 and swapping the clutch seems like a better feasible option.

Ill work the corner's and see what I can come up with! But it looks like that's the route I'm going to be taking.

Im going to make a new thread with the new car right now. Got some photos to get onto photobucket first!

actually, high nox is one of the few things for which you do not want to run the crap out of the car just prior to the e-test - high nox results from too high of combustion temps, so you don't want to provide any extra heat in that case.

And when this test was done, the car had been runing for MAYBE 10 minutes. And sat all night in about 40 degree weather and then for 15 minutes before the test in about 45 degree weather..
