how much boost as you guys expecting to get out of the stock turbos before they take a crap on you? I know there has been talks about the "limits" of the stockers but has anyone actualy confirmed a number yet?

I am running a 3 Bar MAPv & W/M in my EB Brick. Torrie is tuning, as I am his test mule!! (*****....sheep... whatever!) The methanol I am spraying is Snow Boost Juice, a 50/50 water/methanol blend. Darrell is spraying 100% Methanol. Might try this sometime if temps are low enough. I am also running a KB Boost-A-Pump.

Torrie created a test tune to determine the maximum potential boost of the small Honeywell turbos. He backed the advance way off, and effectively set the boost as high as it would go. We saw boost levels of 22 PSI.

So... with the current setup, the turbos are not the weak link. I would have to say that the DI Pump is likely the culprit, as FRP can drop off pretty fast with agressive tuning and high boost situations. But... Lambda readings (A/F Ratio) doesn't always drop off with a low FRP. Sometimes the opposite can happen, where Lambda goes up to as high as .85 with FRP over 2000PSI. Only other issue might be the bottom end of the EB Engine & obviously the rest of the drive train.

My best time to date is a 13.064 @ 104.2 MPH. My best 60 ft is 1.905. My highest top speed was 104.65 MPH. All of these were on a night at Bradenton with 76-77 deg. temps, no wind and considerable humidity. I had 10 runs that night under 13.2. Since that night (a month ago) Torrie has increased WG pressure relating to a nice increase in boost throughout the WOT testing range. With some cooler/dryer air, that I expect later this month when I go to Cedar Falls Raceway, Cedar Falls, IA, hopefully I'll be in the high 12's. Altitude in CF, is about 800 ft higher than Bradenton.

So... Is there a category for me to qualify in???? If you compare my SQ FT of frontal area & weight with earlier gen SHO's as well as Darrell's, I would win this thing hands down!!!! So far, this has been a fun, learning experience. Hope it stays that way!

I would say you qualify for "SHO powered vehicle" if nothing else :)

Possibly on another planet or at ridiculously high altitude, but here on Earth (pressure at sea level), 1 bar = 14.5037738 pounds per square inch.

2 bar can be related to to 14.x PSI if you are referring to your starting atmospheric pressure as the first bar. Just about every gauge you see will reference atmospheric pressure as "0" (bar or PSI).

#1.. Sea Level Pressure varies depending on the weather - highs & Lows. What you are referring to is the stated pressure at sea level, not actually the real pressure at any given time.

#2. EB SHO and other Ford EB products do not have a Boost Gauge. I have a MSD DashHawk that shows Boost PSI, but I can't use it when I'm logging with SCT Tuner.

In fact, when we log using SCT LiveLink 6.3, we see MAPv or TIP as the information used to determine the actual boost. With a 2 BAR sensor per Ford's definition, you multiply the MAPv actual number by 3. Not sure the formula that applies to MAPv when using a 3 bar sensor. Perhaps someone could enlighten us.

TIP doesn't change when adding the 3-Bar MAPv sensor, as it is allready a 3-Bar sensor. In fact the part numbers are the same for the one Ford includes as the TIP sensor, and the new replacement 3 Bar MAPv sensor.
So... to get the true boost, you divide the TIP reading by 2 and subtract 14.7. But... it is easier to just subtract 15. I pretty much round both numbers to get a good "Guesstimate". Since it goes up and down depending on RPM, Gears, MPH etc, the most important fact is NOT the maximum boost PSI, but the maximum average boost over the entire 1/4 mi run.

And... when you replace the stock 2 Bar MAPv sensor with a 3 Bar, you have to adjust the tune for this new part.

Hope this helps.

That's why I state "14.x" in my post. After living in Denver for many years, I became very aware of changing atmospheric conditions.

Mine didn't come with one either. I was making a general reference.

A MAF works in a similar fashion. Flow is calculated off of voltage readings.

Does "Engine that looks like what the new SHO's should've looked like" count as SHO-powered vehicle?

We need to have a trap speed contest too, that would be the only one I have a chance of winning.

**** of an idea Tim, sticky a new thread for it called "Top Ten Fastest" - you know so it looks just like the Top Ten Quickest thread title. Same kind of divisions just in order by MPH trap speeds....... given that this is a SHO forum, I think it would be appropriate....... could make for some good competition if people get into it, especially with more FI SHO's on the way once the shosource kit is out........

Trying to get some parts together to hit 13s in NC for the convention. Maxed the old S/C 91 at 14 flat with no 3rd gear so I need to beat that with all gears. Maybe after that I will seek 12s...this SHO is not going anywhere anytime soon.

World's Fastest Flex! Cedar Falls Raceway, IA 9-23-11

Temp 50's Track AWFUL.... NEED Stickier track or STICKIER TIRES!

12.904 @ 106.95 mph 1.948 60' - T/C ON

13.014 @ 106.57 mph 2.004 60' - T/C off

Most runs resulted in hopping and POV blowing. Still... my worst MPH was 105.65 in 12 runs.

Pix of time slips will follow tomorrow.
