Hello all. I purchased a 1994 ATX a few months back, and finally got the e-test and certification done.

:dribble:

My question is how do I shut off the DRL. My 1994 Explorer had a small fuse in engine area that I pulled to get them to stop on the explorer. Is there a similar fuse just for the DRL on the SHO?
I did a quick search and did not find a thread for turning these DRL off.

Thanks,

G.

Driver's side corner under the front bumper cover.

To properly do it, there is a shunt (jumper plug) that plugs into the harness in place of the DRL module.

I think if you remove the driver corner light you will see a little box there or you might have to remove the fender plastic I forget which is the easiest way to get to it.

Remove the driver side fender plastic. Should be tucked in there near the side marker/cornering light, so remove the cornering light to unscrew it.

If you unplug it , you should lose all headlights ...not good.

I have done mine by cutting one wire which is the one of the parking brake (near the DRL module) , but then you end up having the brake light in the dash lit all the time. But I yanked mine.

What about a way to disable just the high beams. I never use high beams here in the city and I know that DRL are just high beams on low power. Anyone know of a way to disable just the high beams?
Is it a simple as removing the high beam bulb? I'm not sure if the SHO has two bulbs, one for low beam and one for high?

If you unplug it IIRC all you loose is the ability to flash to pass when you pull back the multifunction switch. I have personally done it. DRLs will no longer function.

No, the stock bulb (in a Gen2) is a 9007 which has high beams and low beams in one unit, so no luck there. As a side note, Gen1's use 9004 bulbs, same shape connector, different bulb pinout & filament orientation.

However, if you really want to totally remove your high beams, you can cut/remove the wire that feeds current to the high beam filament in the bulb. Here's the pinout so you know which wire:

9004vs9007

Obviously, you'll want to refer to the bulb on the right (the 9007), and ignore the bulb on the left (the 9004).

Good luck.

Can a non-Canadian Gen 1 add in DRL then? It's one feature that my Impala has that I've really wanted on my SHO. I like to never have to touch the light switch.

Yes, just get a DRL module from a Canadian-origin Gen1 and plug it in where the shorting connector is now.

Might be tricky to find, unless the OP wants to unplug his and sell it to you. :)
